Vasundhara Academy for Performing Arts operates from three locations i.e. and Salt Lake. Vasundhara Gupta started the Academy 30 years ago with a passion to teach children and believes in preserving a part of our heritage and culture by helping children inculcate the ethos behind learning a classical performing art. The academy specializes in teaching Hindusthani Vocal music & Odissi Dance. CLASSI
CAL DANCE
Odissi is taught mainly under 2 gharanas, one of Guru Kelu Charan Mahapatra and the other of Guru Deb Prasad Das. The Academy also encourages choreographies in semi classical, bollywood and Western songs as well. Vasundhara Gupta always feels that learning a classical form should not be a hindrance in performing on other lighter music for all occasions. A classical dancer should have an advantage over others to be able to adapt to all kinds of body movements if needed in a certain type of choreography. Vasundhara Gupta feels that although a fun level must be present at the Academy, a certain discipline should be maintained and Guru Shishya parampara should be followed. Good attendance and maintaining punctuality is important. The Academy always trys to accommodate students for extra classes in case of absenteeism. WESTERN DANCE
Western Dance is taught to children ages 3 years and above for those who want to build on their versatility as dancers. The styles taught in western dance are
Contemporary
Jazz
Freestyle
Hip hop
Krump
CLASSICAL HINDUSTHANI VOCAL
For the past 30 years, the Academy imparts training in Hindusthani Classical vocal to students aged 3 years and above and has separate classes for adults also. Vasundhara Gupta has learnt classical music from the best of the Guru’s and she has personally trained her teachers in her gharana. Most of which is taught in the Academy are compositions of hers. Specialized training is also given in light music, bhajans, ghazals and bollywood music. The students are taught along with supporting instruments like the tabla and sometimes synthesizers for contemporary music. They are taught to sing along with track music and special training is imparted to teach them to face an audience. EXAMS
Vasundhara Academy for Performing Arts is enrolled under Prayag Sangeet Samity (Allahabad) and students of the Academy appear in these exams. The course for the same is taught all year long and written exams for age 10 years and above is held around 23rd-26th December, at Vasundhara Academy for Performing Arts Centre itself. Practical performance is held the next year around June/July also at the Centre with external examinees sent by Prayag Sangeet Samity. SELECTIONS FOR THE EXAMINATION
The students have to give a formal performance in the presence of their parents and show that they are ready with the syllabus to be selected to appear for the exams. If there are students who are unable to pass these selections all attempts from the Academy are made to help the student to finish the syllabus on time. INTERNAL EXAMS
Vasundhara Gupta keeps a strict discipline of overseeing the progress of her students and checks on their progress every 3rd month. A specific syllabus has to be taught in class for 3 months around which time she personally checks out each and every student’s progress, their style and builds a rapport with each one of them. She focuses not only on the style but in building up their confidence and personality. Since it is a performing art which is taught, therefore stress is given to improve each student’s confidence and style in the same. PARENT-TEACHER INTERACTIVE SESSIONS
Parents are discouraged to attend normal classes as this disturbs the class decorum. They are invited to attend special sessions where Vasundhara herself conducts assessments and each student’s progress is discussed with the parents and other family members of the student. ANNUAL DAY

AWARDS AND THE STAR SYSTEM
Vasundhara Academy for Performing Arts institutes an awards system in everyday classes with a view to encourage students to constantly vie for top honors by working harder and harder. This award scheme is called the STAR SYSTEM wherein stars are awarded to children based on their performances assessed through internal tests and general proficiency shown during classes. Through this, we are able to encourage children to do “riyaaz” at home and we all know that hard work ultimately shows results. Since all of what we teach at the Vasundhara Academy for Performing Arts is (as the name suggests) – Performing Arts, we also encourage students to show their performing skills at every available opportunity to their families, friends and relatives, be it at home or at school. THE RED STAR carries 1 point and is awarded to students who show improvement in class, have done their homework by practicing what is taught and show us proof in the form of a letter signed by parents or guardians. THE SILVER STAR carries 3 points and is awarded to students who have performed well in a class test taken by us or when they perform in the presence of more than 5 people at home, by showing us proof in the form of a letter from the parents or the people who see them perform. You can also maintain a book and keep a record of what your child is doing. THE GOLD STAR carries 6 points and is awarded to students who have performed on stage either in our shows, in any public functions or in school. Please remember they will get rewarded by us only if they have performed what has been taught in our Studio, under our tutelage. THE DIAMOND STAR carries 20 points and is the highest honor given by the Principal only on very special occasions
A system has been made for monitoring the number of STARS collected by students. We maintain a STAR ACCOUNT for every student. Prizes will be given to students at annual programs based on the number of stars collected by them.
