Over the years the role of pharmacist have evolved from classical compounding and dispensing to being an integrated member of the health care team directly involved in patient care. A pharmacist has to undergo extensive level of education and training on cross departmental faculties involving anatomy, physiology, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, analytics, statistics and many more to integrate different aspects of science and make the world a healthier place to live. A Pharmacist has to go through highest amount of exposure to toxic chemicals to bring in products that will offer highest degree of safety assurance to the masses. Today Pharmaceutical industry rank second in overall revenue generation. India's pharmaceutical exports are poised to rise to about $20 billion by 2020. Indian generics account for a 30 per cent share of the US market.The country now ranks 3rd in terms of volume of production. However, the people behind this national success are under immense discrimination. A government sweeper earns about 15k a month but a pharmacist who work 16hrs a day 6days a week for the manufacture of emergency medicines for government supply earns a wage of about 5k per month. The comparison seems very unfortunate.
