JKAWF INDIA

The JKAWF INDIA is a Non-Profit Trust that is a branch of the Public Interest Incorporated Association Japan Karate Association / Japan Karate Association World Federation, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. The “Japan Karate Association World Federation India” (JKAWF INDIA), previously known as "JKAWF INDIA Kolkata" was initiated on 1 January, 2015 as an umbrella organisation comprising few Shotokan

groups in India with the mutual agreement to run as non-profit organisation that is to be governed by the JKAWF Tokyo and adhere to its constitution. The JKAWF INDIA has received the Certificate of Membership from the Japan Karate Association on 17 October, 2015 in JKA Headquarters Tokyo and became a direct branch of JKAWF, Tokyo. Japan Karate Association (日本空手協会; Nihon Karate Kyokai; JKA) is the most influential Shotokan karate organisations in the world. It is also one of the oldest (Established in November 1948) and most prestigious karate organisations in the world that continuously in operation till date with a vast membership in over 100 countries. Recognised heir to the Shotokan karate tradition, it is the only legal karate entity officially approved by the Japanese government as a Public Interest Incorporated Association (Kōeki Shadanhōjin;公益社団法人) for the promotion of karate, and granted a tax-free status. There is only one other authorised entity which falls under the umbrella of the JKA: the JKA World Federation (JKAWF;日本空手協会世界連盟). More importantly, the JKA is the preserver of the soul and spirit of the art of ‘kokufu-bunka-karate-do’, karate based on the ancient Japanese tradition of Bushido (the way of the samurai). Our mission is to promote this way of karate throughout the country, ensuring that it remains true to the philosophical precepts upon which it was founded. The JKAWF INDIA is centrally organised and coordinated through JKAWF INDIA HQ, situated in Kolkata, although there are many member groups and branch dojo in different areas of the country. STRUCTURE

JKAWF INDIA is a non-profit umbrella organisation constituted by a few Shotokan karate organizations in India. The leaders of the member organizations are as follows:

1. Founder Member: Somnath Palchowdhury, 5th Dan JKA & 6th Dan WKF, Chief Instructor of Indian Federation of Shotokan Karate that established in 1990.
2. Founder Member: Sona Ghosh, 5th Dan JKA, one of the pioneers of Shotokan in India, Chief Instructor YMCA College branch, Kolkata.
3. Founder Member: Ameer Adukkattil, 5th Dan JKA, Head of Kerala state who operates dojo in Dubai too. GOVERNING BODY

The Governing Body of JKAWF INDIA was re-structured on January 2020 in presence of Katsutoshi Shiina Shihan of JKA in Kolkata.
