On 23rd and 24th September 2026, 21 students from the Department of Economics, History, English and Political Science participated in the Kolkata district Youth Parliament Competition organised by the Department of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of West Bengal in Bethune College.
The two day event had four different categories of competition that included essay writing, extempore, quiz and a mock parliament exercise.
Our students successfully competed in all categories with enthusiasm. The rich learning experience, interaction with students from other colleges helped broaden their worldview and imbibe from each other.
The discussion on the Transgender Rights Bill was very contemporary and the judges appreciated the hard work and dedication of each student.

A Comprehensive Report on the Observation of Week (9th–17th August, 2026)
Organized by: St. Paul’s Cathedral Mission College, Kolkata

In compliance with Government Order No. 2091(7S)/Secy/IC A12026 dated 24.07.2026 issued by the Government of West Bengal, St. Paul’s Cathedral Mission College observed the nationwide initiative from 9th August to 17th August, 2026. The week-long campaign brought together faculty, staff, students, and community outreach participants to foster patriotic fervor, civic awareness, and historical reflection through academic, creative, and sports events.

10th August (Inauguration, Walk & Rangoli):
The celebration commenced with a mass rendition of the National Song, Vande Mataram, by students and staff. A walk was organized, featuring roughly one hundred students, four faculty members, and two non-teaching staff members. Students decorated various sections of the campus with Tiranga-themed Rangolis.

11th August (Special Lecture & Wall Painting Launch):
Prof. Ruth Rhea Khan (Department of Political Science) delivered a lecture on the "History of the Indian National Flag" in Room 2 at 1:30 PM. A multi-day Wall Painting Competition on the theme of Patriotism commenced across designated campus walls.

12th August (Essay Competition & Pre-Independence Chapel Service):
An essay-writing competition titled "Rishi Aurobindo: Prophet of Nationalism and the Lover of Humanity" was organized, drawing seventeen participants across various departments. A Pre-Independence Special Chapel Service was conducted at 1:00 PM to offer prayers for the nation.

13th August (Preamble Reading & Cultural Programme):
Dr. Sourish Ghosh (Department of Political Science) led a collective reading of the Preamble to the Constitution of India in the college auditorium. The Cultural Committee organized a musical presentation featuring patriotic compositions by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Atul Prasad Sen, and Mohini Chowdhury, alongside a dance performance set to Rabindranath Tagore’s work.

14th August (Poster Exhibition & Wall Painting Conclusion):
Seven students participated in a poster competition on the themes ‘Pride of India: Our Tricolour, Our Identity’ and ‘Every Home, Every Heart – Tiranga’. The Wall Painting Competition concluded, showcasing creative interpretations of national unity and freedom.

15th August (80th Independence Day Celebration & Sports):
The National Flag was unfurled on the college grounds. Children from the Roddur outreach programme (supporting nearby pavement-dwelling families) joined students and faculty in singing patriotic songs and leading an on-campus tricolour rally. An intra-college football tournament was conducted, culminating in the presentation of the Rishi Aurobindo Cup to the winning team.

17th August (Valedictory Session & Special Lectures):
Two commemorative lectures were organized: Dr. Anasuya Bhar (Department of English) on Rabindranath Tagore's Jana Gana Mana, and Prof. Santanu Banerjee (Department of History) on India's anti-colonial freedom struggle. Certificates of appreciation and achievement were distributed to participants and competition winners. Teacher-in-Charge Dr. Sudipta Midday delivered the formal valedictory address, officially concluding the celebrations.

The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with great joy at St. Paul's Cathedral Mission College. The celebration was special because of the cheerful presence of the Roddur children alongside the students and staff of the college.
The event began with the unfurling of the National Flag on the college grounds in a spirit of deep patriotism.
Students, faculty, and the children from the Roddur outreach program—(which supports nearby pavement-dwelling families)—gathered together to honor the nation by singing patriotic songs, the National anthem and upholding the national flags that the children had prepared for the occasion.
The students of the college participated in an intra football competition which was a wonderful way to build unity and joy among students.
The inclusive atmosphere and shared smiles made the milestone freedom celebration truly special for the entire college family.

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), in collaboration with the Mental Health Awareness Cell, successfully organized an interactive awareness programme titled Mon-Kharaper Khas Khabar (মন-খারাপের খাস খবর) to promote awareness about mental health and emotional well-being among the college community. It was indeed a privilege to have Mr. Mohit Randeep as tge resource person for the session. It was indeed an insightful and engaging discussion on the importance of recognizing and addressing mental health concerns.

The programme highlighted the growing significance of mental health support within educational institutions, in line with recent initiatives encouraging the establishment of Mental Health Awareness Cells. The enthusiastic participation of students and faculty members reflected the urgent need for such initiatives and demonstrated that mental health is an issue affecting individuals across all sections of the academic community.

The interactive session encouraged participants to openly share their experiences and concerns in a safe and supportive environment. Several participants spoke about challenges such as sleep disturbances, recurring nightmares and anxiety, prolonged grief following the loss of loved ones, depression, and general feelings of stress and emotional distress. Many attendees also chose to interact individually with the resource person after the session to seek guidance and discuss their personal concerns.

The programme effectively dispelled the common misconception that mental health is of secondary importance and emphasized that emotional well-being is an integral part of overall health and academic success. The active participation and positive response from both students and teachers underscored the need for regular awareness programmes and the establishment of a dedicated counselling centre within the institution.

The event concluded with a discussion on the future course of action. There was a strong consensus regarding the necessity of sustained mental health initiatives and counselling services and it was also reaffirmed the institution's commitment to fostering a supportive, inclusive, and mentally healthy campus environment through continued awareness and intervention initiatives.

West Bengal Day (Paschimbanga Divas), was observed on 20th June 2026 in the college premises to commemorate the foundation of current West Bengal. The day was a landmark in the history of the country because of the torturous partition that displaced the lives of millions of people and led to two separate Bengals. The Paschimbanga Divas is both a reminder of the sacrifices made during partition and an occasion to honor the state's vibrant legacy, highlighting its immense contributions to India's literary, artistic, and political history.

The day began with sapling plantation in our campus as a symbolic and auspicious commemoration of a new beginning.

It was followed by an essay competition on ‘Celebrating Cultural Heritage of West Bengal’ for the students of the College.

The day fruitfully came to end with an online Lecture on “ The Bengal Day: Celebrating Culture, Heritage & History.” The eminent speaker was Dr. Anindita Ghosal. Department of History, Diamond Harbour Women’s University.

OBSERVANCE OF DR. SHYAMA PRASAD MOOKHERJEE MEMORIAL FORTNIGHT
(23rd JUNE-6th JULY 2026)

The college organised an eventful celebration of Shyama Prasad Memorial Fortnight under the theme,’ ‘শ্যামাপ্রসাদ মুখার্জী : একটি অনুকরণীয় আদর্শ জীবন’

Day-1 on 23rd June an inaugural Special Lecture was delivered by Dr. Sk. Makbul Islam, Associate Professor, Department of Bengali on Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookherjee.

Day2: The College organised an Essay Competition on ‘Shyama Prasad’s Vision of Education’, on 1st of July 2026 to sensitise students about the value of national education, character building, scientific and technical education and promotion of Indian culture.

The participants' essays reflected their hard work in preparing for this academic exercise and interest towards learning about national leaders of the country.

Day 3: One 3rd July 2026 the students from different departments spoke on the theme ‘Dr. Shyama Prasad: A Pioneer of Modern India.’ They spoke on the subject from different perspectives ranging from his views on education, his political visions and his roadmap for nation building.

It was interesting to see how our students were able to reflect on the wide domain of Dr Shyamaprasad's political blueprint for a newly independent India. The students were enriched by each others presentation and the group discussions that followed were a lively, learning experience.

Day 4: On 6th July, the college celebrated the birth centenary of Dr. Shyama Prasad through a special exhibition of books in the college library which ranged from his own writing on the famine of Bengal to books on different aspects of his life and achievements.

A poster exhibition was held on the theme ‘Dr Shyma Prasad Mookherjee: Aspects of His Life and Works’ Ten posters prepared by students in both manual and digital forms were displayed for the audience. The posters highlighted various aspects of the life of Dr. Shyama Prasad, his visions as an astute politician and his fame as a renowned educationist who had made the country proud.

It was followed by the screening of a documentary produced by Prasar Bharati titled, ‘Shyama Prasad Mukherjee an Uncompromising Martyr.’
It was a great learning experience for both the students and teachers who participated in the events organised as part of the Fortnight Celebrations.

The programme came to an end with the distribution of certificates for all students who had participated wholeheartedly to ensure the success of the Fortnight celebrations.

On July 18, 2026, a Parent-Teacher Meeting was held in the Roddur room, which was followed by the distribution of the Roddur Progress Report Cards. These specially designed report cards track the development of children aged 4 to 14, helping to identify individual strengths and areas for improvement while encouraging them to participate in Roddur activities. Additionally, a parent feedback survey was conducted to gather insights on Roddur's growth and impact over the years.

The highlight of the day was a malaria awareness talk by Dr Abhisekh Das and distribution of mosquito nets & plastic sheets by Prof. Debalina Saha. The distribution was made possible by the generous contribution of Akanksha Majumdar, a well wisher of Roddur.

The successful running of the programme would not have been possible without the active cooperation of Binodini Mahato, Jitendra Nayak, Ramesh Nayak, Subham Dutta and all our student volunteers. The college authorities and the teachers have always extended their full support to ensure the success of every Roddur Committee initiative.

A three day Batik workshop was organised by St. Paul’s Cathedral Mission College in collaboration with Amar Kutir and Scottish Church College between 11th and 13th June 2026. The venue for the workshop was Scottish Church College.
Eleven participants from St Paul’s Cathedral Mission College took part in the workshop. The participants learnt the art of Batik and Badhni under the able guidance of a teacher from Amar Kutir. The experience was memorable as students were able to produce beautiful handmade batik products. The workshop was a successful initiative towards encouraging skill development among the students of our college.
