Learning UX through theory gives you a foundation.

But working on real design problems changes the way you understand it.

A designer can know about empathy, user journeys, usability, design thinking and other UX principles. Yet when an actual requirement comes in, the situation is rarely as straightforward as a textbook example.

The problem may already have constraints.

The requirements may evolve.

The solution may need to work within an existing product.

Sometimes there isn't enough information to follow a perfect UX process.

A strong UI/UX portfolio project should do more than look good. It should 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗼 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗿.

Every project you include should demonstrate at least 3 things:

01 — Problem Solving
Can you understand the problem and design a meaningful solution?

02 — Design Skills
Can you turn your thinking into a clear, usable and visually strong experience?

03 — Decision Making
Can you explain why you made the choices you made?

Because recruiters aren't only looking at your final screens.
They're trying to understand 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸.

Your job as a UI/UX designer isn't to prove that you're right.

It's to understand why someone disagrees with your design.

When a client, stakeholder, developer, or user gives you feedback, don't immediately defend your work.

Instead, ask:
→ What problem is behind the feedback?
→ Is there a user need I'm missing?
→ Is there a business or technical constraint?
→ Can the design be improved because of this feedback?

Because great designers don't treat feedback as criticism.
They use it as input for better decisions. The goal isn't to win the design argument.

The goal is to build a better product.
