One of the #1 reasons I see website owners fail:

They don’t plan around “Traffic Lag.”

Traffic lag is the time span between the initial efforts to drive visitors and actually seeing consistent traffic on your site.

We all know marketing strategies take time.

→ Running ads takes time to see results
→ Content creation isn’t enough on its own
→ SEO efforts won’t produce immediate traffic

This delay is what I call “Traffic Lag.”

But in practice — it’s hard to factor into your strategy.

Why?

1. Traffic lag lengthens the feedback loop
2. Teams need to trust their marketing efforts
3. Non-marketers expect quick results

Most traffic-building efforts you make today will show effects in a few weeks. But you’ll be expected to see results immediately.

There are 2 ways this impacts website owners:

1. You give up too early

→ You spend time on a campaign
⤷ You can’t justify minimal immediate traffic

Had you been aware that traffic takes time, you might have pushed longer and seen success.

2. You get “lazy” once you see initial traffic

→ “Look at the traffic from my last effort”
⤷ Efforts into refining and scaling dip

And for the next few weeks, you might still see some traffic — but this is due to lag.
Once you notice reduced efforts = less traffic, you’re slowed down further.

This is the danger of Traffic Lag.

The solution?

Standardization + Experimentation + Awareness

→ Is something working? Standardize it.
→ Are you getting traffic? Experiment around it.
