"Thinking, Fast and Slow" by Daniel Kahneman is a seminal work in the field the behavioral sciences and of decision-making.

Here are ten of the most important lessons learned from the book:

1. Dual Systems of Thinking:

Kahneman introduces the idea of two different systems of thinking that are System 1 which is quick and intuitive and System 2 which is slower and conscious. The understanding of how both systems function can help explain the human decision-making process.

2. Cognitive Biases:

The book examines a variety of cognitive biases that impact the human mind's judgment and decision-making. Recognizing these biases like anchoring, availability and confirmation bias is essential to make more well-informed and rational decisions.

3. Prospect Theory:

Kahneman introduces the concept of prospect theory that explains how people assess possible outcomes and make choices according to their perception of gains and losses, rather than absolute values. The theory has important implications in understanding financial and economic choices.

4. Loss Aversion:

The concept of loss aversion, that losses have a bigger impact on people than comparable gains, is an important learning. People are more fearful of losing their possessions than they are to gain the same amount of worth.

5. Planning Fallacy:

Kahneman speaks about the plan fallacy that people tend to be too optimistic when making predictions for the future. Knowing this behavior can assist in developing better plans, expectations and goals.

6. Regression to the Mean:

The idea that regression is a process of reducing to the average is that extreme results are more most likely to follow moderate ones. Knowing this principle aids in avoiding misinterpreting random events.

7. Endowment Effect:

The effect of endowment is a term used to describe people giving more value to items owned by them, has been investigated. This bias is a factor that can affect the strategies of negotiation and decision-making that relate to ownership.

8. Hindsight Bias:

Hindsight bias, which is the tendency to see that events are predicted after they've already been observed, is discussed. This type of bias can cause overconfidence, which can affect our ability to gain knowledge from experiences.

9. Systematic Thinking in Decision-Making:

The book promotes the application in System 2 thinking, which is more systematic and deliberate reasoning, particularly in instances where quick, instinctual judgments can lead to erroneous conclusions.

10. Understanding Behavioral Economics:

"Thinking, Fast and Slow" helps to advance this field called behavioral economics through the integration of psychology into economic models. The book focuses on the importance of studying the human mind and its decision-making processes in the context of economics and policies.

The lessons in "Thinking, Fast and Slow" give valuable insights into the intricate nature of human cognitive and decision-making abilities, providing practical solutions for people and professionals working in diverse disciplines.

The Picture Below Shows USA's *Anita Alvarez* as she sank slowly to the bottom of the pool at the world championships in Budapest recently.

Her Coach *Andrea Fuentes*, scanned the pool deck and made a split-second decision: _She dove in to save her._

*This Image Should Remind Us Of The Importance Of Coaching And Mentoring*

This coach had the ability to recognize when Anita was under the water longer than she normally could.
-This coach had the desire to help.
-This coach had the willingness to save.
-This coach acted while others were still watching on the sideline.

We have too many young folks drowning right before us especially at work, in different walks of life etc.
We watch as many walk away & unfortunately, some, even taking their own lives due to the pressure that comes from navigating life's challenges.

*Everyone Needs A Helping Hand*

If you’re a young person that doesn’t have a mentor, find one now.

If you’re a seasoned veteran and don’t have a mentee, find one now, there's no excuse for anyone to drown.

"The attempt to escape from pain, is what creates more pain."
- Gabor Maté.

The present dystopian society is the result of multi-generational/ inter-generational trauma. Needless to say, our worldviews have been artificially tinged with anger, fear and suspicion. Our implicit experiences of pain and abandonment have resulted in a perennial void within us. Most people try to fill their unmet emotional vacuum with cheap materialistic alternatives. However nothing can actually quench the everlasting desire for fulfillment and satisfaction.

Last one decade of my life has been an enriching experience. Met thousands of people with different behavioural and emotional hues. My profession helped me interact with thousands of students and their guardians. Irrespective of age, caste or gender, most people have unresolved trauma and their worldviews are tainted with those trauma filters.
Most people are evidently hyper sensitive to stress and emotional stimuli. Even though reality is subjective, most people tend to perceive (read misinterpret) reality through their respective trauma filters. Consequently, they react in the most adverse manners to otherwise innocuous situations.

The purpose of this article is to encourage contemplation and metacognition. Think before you react. Think before you judge others. Think before you pass any remarks about others as those people may also carrying similar kind of traumatic experience.

After 4 Gujarat youths with high IELTS score fail to speak in English in US court, cops begin probe 02/08/2022

All that glitters is not gold. Excellence takes time, dedication, effort and honesty. Language is not just a mere tool to earn. Every language bears the collective ensemble of war, tragedy, love, hatred, sacrifice. We cannot adapt a language or excel in it just by remembering a few words or accent.
