Seamlessly intertwining the colonial and the post-colonial, Dr Mukherjee, took the audience to a journey along the East Kolkata wetlands—her area of research—and demonstrated through powerpoint slides, how traditional methods of historical research like sifting through archival documents can be combined with ethno-graphic methodology, namely, regular field visits, structured and semi-structured interviews, videography, cartography, paintings, still photographs. The lively question and answer session that followed her one hour fifteen minutes presentation, testifies to the interest it generated amongst the students.
