On the 3rd of May 2024, the Departments of English and History jointly organised their first international seminar, 'Myriad Facets of India's Partition: Intertwining Social Sciences with Literature', in collaboration with the IQAC & Hub Centre, Asutosh College, and the departments of English and History of Harimohan Ghose College and Syamaprasad College.
Dr. Binayak Dutta, Associate Professor in History at NEHU, Dr. Aparna Lanjewar Bose, Professor in English at EFLU, who participated online from Hyderabad, Dr. Nandini Saha, Professor in English at JU, and Ms Amrita Dasgupta, Ph.D. candidate at SOAS (UK), and Guest Faculty at LSE, shared their thoughts on the nation's partition from different perspectives in two very thought-provoking sessions. Students of the departments of English and History and faculty members were greatly enriched by the experience.
A big thank you to the speakers, the audience, the technical support staff, and of course our student volunteers, who helped to make this new endeavour a grand success.
The day was also special because our Principal, Dr. Manas Kabi, completed a very successful year in office. He graced the occasion with his presence, personally addressing all the eminent speakers and other guests in his unique and inimitable style.
Our gratitude to him also for encouraging us and facilitating the organising of this seminar.

Asutosh College's Career Counselling and Training Programme, in collaboration with IQAC and Cluster of HUB, hosted a one-day seminar on "Exploring Career Opportunities in Translation Study" on 30th April. Dr. Nishi Pulugurtha from Brahmananda Keshab Chandra College and Dr. Sayantan Dasgupta from Jadavpur University's Department of Comparative Literature were the distinguished speakers.
Dr. Manas Kabi, Principal of Asutosh College, released a book titled "Career Guidance: Choices Before You".
The seminar provided invaluable information and insights into the world of translation, highlighting its pivotal role in today's society.

Reflecting on the heartwarming memories of “Agomoni” last year at Rotary Sadan organised by the Asutosh College Tea Club, on 17th October 2023 to herald Bengal's autumnal festival season and celebrate the festive spirit before the college closed for the Puja Vacation :
The highlights of the first part were :
* Hon’ble Member of Parliament and President of Governing Body, Asutosh College, Sri Saugata Ray, graced this joyous occasion, adding to the warmth of the gathering.
* Felicitation of 3 mothers of our Faculty Members replicating the tri nayani Goddess Durga and her power.
* Performance by the children of our faculty members, who stole the show with their heartfelt performances, delighting the audience with songs and recitations.

Five Units of Asutosh College, namely Sir Asutosh Mukherjee Charcha Kendra, Women Empowerment Cell, Cultural Unit, NSS Unit and IQAC of Asutosh College in collaboration with Deshbandhu College for Girls conducted a state-level seminar cm workshop titled 'Nari-Kathay Sathitya O Samaj' on On 27th March 2024.
Under the patronage of Dr. Manas Kabi and Dr. Anita Chattopadhyay Gupta, the principals of two colleges, the event delved deep into the bond between literature, society, and the narratives of women. Esteemed resource persons were Smt. Madhubani Chattopadhyay, eminent Bharatnatyam exponent and author, Dr. Basabi Chakraborty, Professor in the Faculty of Sociology, Netaji Subhash Open University and Ms. Suranjana Dasgupta, Actor and Director.
Smt. Madhubani Chattopadhyay's portrayal of 'Bidrohinir Mahabharat' unveiled the timeless tales of resilience embodied by Sakuntala, Kunti, Satyabati, and Subhadra, resonating with the essence of empowerment with her narration about Hirimba, who was always usually ignored.
Dr. Basabi Chakraborty's discourse, spanning Draupadi's narrative to legislative measures against workplace harassment, sparked crucial conversations and reflections.
And finally, the event reached its crescendo with an awe-inspiring drama recital by Ms. Suranjana Dasgupta, drawing inspiration from Noti Binodini's life story, 'Amar Katha', leaving us all mesmerized and inspired.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants and attendees for making this event a resounding success!

The department of History, in collaboration with the IQAC and Research and Development Cell of Asutosh College, organised a one-day seminar on Research Methodology for the undergraduate students of the department on 15.03.2024. The objective was to familiarise the students with new avenues of research. The resource person, Dr Jenia Mukherjee, Associate Professor, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT, Kharagpur, enthralled the students with her lucid presentation. Seamlessly intertwining the colonial and the post-colonial, Dr Mukherjee, took the audience to a journey along the East Kolkata wetlands—her area of research—and demonstrated through powerpoint slides, how traditional methods of historical research like sifting through archival documents can be combined with ethno-graphic methodology, namely, regular field visits, structured and semi-structured interviews, videography, cartography, paintings, still photographs. The lively question and answer session that followed her one hour fifteen minutes presentation, testifies to the interest it generated amongst the students.

The Department of Communicative English in association with IQAC and Entrepreneurship Cell, Asutosh College organised a One-Day National Seminar on Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Start-Up Ecosystems. The speakers - Dr. Mala Dasgupta Sengupta, an edupreneur, and Rahul Basak, a serial entrepreneur, - inspired the students to choose entrepreneurship as a career option that is challenging but equally rewarding and fulfilling. With interactive sessions interspersed with questions from an eager audience comprising of students from different colleges, the seminar turned out to be a locale of constructive interaction, networking and learning.

Today, Dr. Sneha Kar Chaudhuri, Associate Professor & Head of the Department of English, West Bengal State University, delivered an invited lecture on 'Research Methodology' to students of the fourth and sixth semesters of the English department of our college. Judging by the response of students and members of faculty and their interaction with Dr. Kar Chaudhuri, it was a thoroughly engrossing session. Students were greatly enriched by her lucid presentation on research methodologies, on the different areas of research that have been thrown up by new and emerging areas of academic engagement, and on the 'omnivorous' research possibilities of students of English literature.

Asutosh College hosted an enriching panel discussion titled "Dynamics of Interpersonal Relationships across Institutions: Past and Present," organised by Women Empowerment (Gender Equity) Cell in collaboration with IQAC, Asutosh College on 9th March 2024.
The esteemed panelists were felicitated for their remarkable achievements, dedication and outstanding contributions in their respective fields.
The panel discussion featured esteemed speakers-
Dr. Anupama Chowdhury, Principal of Women's College Calcutta, Dr. Debarati Chakraborty, Assistant Professor of Performing Arts at Presidency University, Pew Roy, Senior Assistant Editor at TV 9 Bangla, and Namrata Chakraborty, Research Scholar at University of Calcutta.
This insightful discussion, held at the Seminar Hall, Centenary Building of Asutosh College, was a fitting tribute to International Women's Day. The engaging panel discussion explored the intricate dynamics of interpersonal relationships across various institutions, both past and present.

Department of Bengali, Asutosh College organised a one day seminar on " Research Methodology" and " Printing and Publication" in collaboration with Research Development Cell ( RDC) and IQAC, Asutosh College on 7th March 2024 at Centenary Building Hall.
The esteemed speakers were Prof. Sanat Kumar Naskar, Dept of Bengali, University of Calcutta and Sri. Subhankar Dey of Dey's Publishing House. Principal Dr. Manas Kabi, Dr. Rina Kar Dutta, TCS and Dr. Abhik Kundu, Director, RDC attended and addressed the gathering.
The seminar achieved resounding success, drawing active participation from more than 90 students of both UG and PG classes of the Department. Faculty members also actively engaged in the scholarly discourse, contributing to the event's overall success.

The renowned academic, former VC, West Bengal State University and Director, Heritage Group of Colleges Professor Basab Chaudhuri gave an enlightening interactive lecture on Research Methodology.
