A huge congratulations to Prof. Sunil Bajpai from IIT Roorkee and Debajit Datta (Alumni of Department of Geology, Asutosh College- 2011 Batch) on their incredible discovery of Vasuki Indicus, a 47-million-year-old snake species found in Kutch, Gujarat!
This newly discovered species is estimated to have been a massive creature, measuring between 11 to 15 meters long! This significant find sheds light on the ancient biodiversity of our planet and adds a fascinating chapter to the evolutionary history of snakes.
It's wonderful to see the expertise and dedication of Prof. Bajpai and Debajit Datta paying off in such a remarkable way. Their work not only expands our knowledge of prehistoric life but also underscores the importance of ongoing scientific exploration.

Welcome to the world of Paleontology. Don't expect your fictitious Professor to teach you the whole syllabus in a spare of 5 minutes. Let me ,rather ,introduce you to a museum full of life. The journey of evolution of life starts somewhere in the past from something as tiny as a microalgae and transcends to something as huge as a dinosaur. You will be introduced to the tales of the shells on seashore to interesting life adaptation of funny looking cephalopod. All these lives that have existed back in time to the ones that are still living have a story to tell about the Earth. While you tread along these museum paths with your jaws half dropped; you will see a jawless Agnatha smiling back at you. Palaeontology will teach you that we were not the only supreme rulers of the world. There were many before us and there will be afterwards. It teaches how beautiful struggle for life can be in this firecely competitive world.
