🦩 Warning: Side effects of KITA activities may include… unexpected parent faces.

🎭 4 pictures. 4 expressions. 1 KITA parent journey.
From “what is this?” → “is this a language class?” → “wait, it worked?!” → “okay, I’m proud.”

Spanish for kids… theatre for parents.
Because KITA= Languages, crafts & a free workout for your facial muscles. 😂

👀 You’ve seen the flamingo in our logo…
but did you know she has a name?

🦩 Meet Quipu — KITA’s official mascot.

👋 Hey, that’s me! I’ve been neon pink, multicolour, pastel… basically, more outfit changes than a pop star. ✨ Shapes? Tried them. Formats? Yup. But through it all, I’ve always been a flamingo.

Why? Because balance, curiosity, and a little flair — that’s who I am (also, standing on one leg is kind of my thing).

And my name? Quipu.
Long ago, a quipu was a string of knots that tied stories and memories together. That’s exactly what I do here — knotting sounds, words, and colours into little memories kids never forget. 🌸

So from now on, you’ll see me dropping into posts, sharing fun facts, maybe even reminding you to practice 👀 (nicely, I promise).

Stick around — language learning is about to get colourful, musical, and flamingo-bulous.

Great question! Phonologically, Spanish and English are not the same. While they share the Roman alphabet and have some overlapping sounds, they differ significantly in how sounds (phonemes) are organized, produced, and perceived. Here’s a breakdown to help:

🔤 Key Phonological Differences Between Spanish and English
1. Vowel Sounds
English has about 15 vowel sounds, depending on the dialect (e.g., ship vs. sheep, cot vs. caught).

Spanish has just 5 pure vowels: /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/, /u/ — and each is consistently pronounced.
🧠 This makes Spanish vowels easier for learners, especially young ones!

2. Syllable Structure
English allows complex syllables (like “strengths”).

Spanish prefers simpler, more rhythmic syllables, which are CV (consonant-vowel) based (like pa-pa, ma-má).
🎵 This rhythmic nature helps children pick up patterns more easily.

3. Stress and Intonation
English is stress-timed (some syllables are longer and stronger), while Spanish is syllable-timed (each syllable is about the same length).
🗣️ That’s why Spanish often sounds faster — but it’s actually just more evenly timed.

4. Consonant Differences
Spanish doesn’t have certain English sounds like /ʒ/ (as in “measure”) or /θ/ (as in “think”).

English doesn’t typically use the rolled /r/ or tapped /ɾ/ found in Spanish.
🔄 These unfamiliar sounds provide great opportunities to train children’s ears and tongues!

🧠 Why It Matters in Early Learning
According to Werker & Tees (1984), babies are born with the ability to hear all human phonemes, but by age 9-12 months, they start tuning in to the sounds they hear most.

Exposing them to Spanish with English early gives them the phonological flexibility to retain distinctions in both languages — making it easier to pronounce and understand both.

🌱 At KITA…
We design phonics and sound-play activities that help kids notice, compare, and enjoy the sound structures of both languages.
From clapping syllables to mimicking animal sounds, we support the ear training that builds phonological awareness and, later, reading skills.

Because when you play with sound,
you build a brain that listens, adapts, and understands more than one world. 🌍

Mini Mirós at Work! 🌟
“Rojo, Azul, Amarillo, Verde…”
Our littlest learners just discovered their first Spanish colors — and painted the air with joy, just like Miró would’ve wanted. 🇪🇸

At KITA, we don’t stop at vocabulary.
We feel the words, touch the colors, and turn them into creations.
This isn’t just art. It’s language in motion — bold, bright, and completely their own.

🎨 Joan Miró, one of Spain’s most beloved artists, believed in freedom of form and childlike expression — and we think he’d be proud of these little explorers.

Inspired by the spirit of Spanish modern art, these tiny hands brought their new Spanish into a world of shape, space, and story. 💫

✨ This isn’t just Spanish class…
it’s a colour-coded takeover con estilo!

One worksheet done.
One friend still going.
And both learning — together. 🐰🐱✍️

At KITA, every class is built around curiosity, connection, and bilingual thinking.

Last week’s theme?
Los animales favoritos.
One chose un conejo, the other un gato.

They’re still learning how to write the date,
but writing their nombre and fecha in every class. This is giving them a natural feel for structure —
without ever needing a translation.

The worksheets may carry English instructions,
but blending them with simple tasks like
writing nombre y fecha
is already building confidence in using both languages —
gently, joyfully, and without pressure.

We teach children to think in new languages —
with context, joy, and confidence.

✨ One worksheet at a time.
✨ One word at a time.
✨ One real moment at a time.

At KITA,
language isn’t memorized — it’s lived.

Language is not just spoken.
It’s shaped in gluey palms 👐 and finger-painted skies 🎨
It’s whispered between the lines of a worksheet 📄,
and tucked into the corners of a paper sun ☀️✨

At KITA, we see children learning Spanish not by memorising—but by making.
A rabbit drawn becomes “el conejo” 🐇
A splash of yellow is no longer just a colour—it’s “amarillo” 💛
bright and bold like their imaginations 🌈

Sometimes, they don’t even realise they’re learning a new language.
They just feel it:
in the way their crayon pauses before picking “rojo” 🖍️
in the way their song skips into “gracias” 🎶
in the way their world quietly expands 🌍

This is what we believe at KITA—
That language lives inside art, music, and moments.
It doesn’t need to be taught—it just needs space to bloom 🌼
And we’re here to water it, gently, joyfully 💫

🧃🧩🍉 Just another day at KITA where crayons talk,
songs giggle, and languages grow with little fingers.

A whisper from mamá. A word from the child.
That’s how we grow❤

This isn’t just a language class.
It’s a space where confidence is shaped, not just in kids, but in caregivers too.
Look closely — no chaos, no clashing. Not just kids sharing, collaborating, and creating with intention but also parents feeling their way through, navigating when to step in, and when to step back.
Look again — the moms behind them, quietly amazed at how much these little ones are learning... and how naturally they’re leading!

Behind the paper and paint, there’s a quiet choreography:
A child reaching for some paint, a parent offering a word — maybe a few too many 🤭 — and then slowly, letting go.

This isn’t just red paint and paper.
It’s confidence, cooperation, and community — in every language.

At KITA, we don’t just teach a language.
We nurture social-emotional growth, decision-making, and joy — one language at a time!

Because how you learn matters as much as what you learn!

"But they don’t even know English properly yet...”
“Isn’t this too early to start a new language?”

We hear this a lot.
And it comes from a place of love — parents wanting to protect their child from confusion or pressure. ❤️

But here’s the truth:
Young children are wired for language.
Not just one — MANY!
They don’t “get confused” by multiple languages.
They adapt to them. They absorb them.
They learn them the way they learned their first word — through real moments, playful repetition, and joyful connection.

At KITA, we don’t teach Spanish (or any language) the way textbooks do.
We introduce it gently, through songs, actions, stories, and conversation — so naturally, that it becomes part of their world without force or friction.

Your child may not be “fluent” tomorrow — but they’ll understand.
They’ll associate new sounds with smiles.
They’ll build a deeper ear for language.
And above all — they’ll grow up knowing that other cultures, sounds, and words are nothing to fear.

Because when you plant language early,
you don’t just grow vocabulary —
you grow empathy, confidence, and cognitive flexibility.

And that? That’s never too early. 💛

Pasitos en español.
Tiny steps. Lifelong impact.
