As you may know, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has released the draft Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Bill, 2025. If enacted, this Bill will fundamentally alter the existing structure, autonomy, and academic character of the Institute, leading to the rapid decline of an institution that has served the nation with distinction for over nine decades.
We are deeply concerned about the implications of this Bill and strongly oppose its passage. More details about the draft, along with related media reports, are available here: https://sites.google.com/view/isibill2025
Faculty, staff, and students of ISI are collectively protesting the Bill. We are planning to submit a petition to the Hon’ble Minister of MoSPI, requesting that the Bill be withdrawn.
