Anaxagoras of Clazomenae (500/499-428/427)
....................................
The first philosopher who teach in Athens. He has been held an astronomical theory that included the view that the sun is a red hot body, larger than Peloponnese, from which the moon derives its light. He was exile and died in honour at Lampsacus.
He assigned a fundamental cosmological role to mind both as the animating principle of plants and animals. His most characteristic is that there is ' a portion of everything in everything', meaning that whatever a thing changes into is in some imperceptible way already present in it before the change. for him, thinhgs are homoiomereiai of each other.

Peter Abelard (1079-1142) French scholastic philosopher. Born near Nantes, he lived a hectic life, quite apart from the misfortune he incurred as a result of his romance of 1118. He was educated at Chartres and Paris, and lived as a Monk.
Abelard wrote extensively on the problems of universal, probably adopting a moderate realism, although he has sometimes been claimed as a nominalist. He wrote commentariesito on Prophyry and other authorities. His Scito te Ipsum ('Know Theyself') is a treatise on ethics holding that sin consists entirely in contempt for the wishes of God; action is therefore less important than states of mind such as intention. His Sic et Non ('For and Against') is a cxollection of contradictions from scriptures and early writings, coupled with his own rules for resolving disputes. It provided the initial programme for the scolastic method. Abelard's contributions to logic have been the object of recent admiration, while his hymns include O quanta qualia ('oh how great and glorious are those sabbaths').
