RABIES virus🔴

মার্চ মাসে, রাজ্য স্তরের কাবাডি খেলোয়াড় ব্রিজেশ সোলাঙ্কি, একটি কুকুরছানাকে একটি ড্রেন থেকে উদ্ধার করার সময়, যখন তাকে কামড়/আঁচড়ে দেয়। তিনি বিষয়টি হালকাভাবে নেন এবং রিপোর্ট করেননি। কয়েক মাস পরে, তিনি জলাতঙ্ক রোগে আক্রান্ত হন এবং ৩ জুলাই২০২৫ মারা যান।

⚫️জেনে নেওয়া যাক রোগটি সম্পর্কে:-

RABV ভাইরাসের সংক্রমণের ফলে সংক্রমিত একটি রোগ হল জলাতঙ্ক । এর ফলে খিঁচুনি, হ্যালুসিনেশন এবং পক্ষাঘাতের মতো লক্ষণ দেখা দেয়। জলাতঙ্ক হওয়ার সবচেয়ে সাধারণ উপায় হল বাদুড়ের কামড় (মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে) অথবা কুকুরের কামড় (এশিয়া এবং আফ্রিকায়)।

⚫️কীভাবে ছড়ায় ⬇️

যদি কোনও ক্ষিপ্ত প্রাণী কামড়ায় বা আঁচড়ে ফেলে তবে এটি মানুষ এবং পোষা প্রাণীর মধ্যে ছড়িয়ে পড়তে পারে। সংক্রামিত প্রাণীর লালা (থুথু) যখন খোলা ক্ষতে (সাধারণত কামড় থেকে) প্রবেশ করে তখন রেবিজ ভাইরাস আপনার শরীরে প্রবেশ করে। এটি স্নায়ুপথ ধরে খুব ধীরে ধীরে আপনার কেন্দ্রীয় স্নায়ুতন্ত্রে (আপনার মস্তিষ্ক এবং মেরুদণ্ডের কর্ড) প্রবেশ করে। যখন এটি আপনার মস্তিষ্কে পৌঁছায়, তখন ক্ষতির ফলে স্নায়বিক লক্ষণ দেখা দেয়। সেখান থেকে, রেবিজ কোমা এবং মৃত্যুর দিকে পরিচালিত করে।

The End of an Era: The Northern White Rhino Is Functionally Extinct

It walked the Earth for 55 million years — through ice ages, continental shifts, meteor strikes, and the slow crawl of evolutionary time.

But it couldn’t survive humans.

The northern white rhino, one of Earth’s oldest and most majestic creatures, is now functionally extinct. The last male, Sudan, died in 2018 in Kenya. Today, only two females remain: Najin and Fatu — both unable to reproduce naturally. They are watched over day and night, not by the forces of nature, but by armed guards. Their lives are now a reminder — not of what thrives, but what we’ve lost.

What Happened?

Poaching. Greed. Indifference. The white rhino wasn’t wiped out by predators or disease, but by the belief that its horn — made of nothing more than keratin, like human fingernails — held medicinal or financial value. Its horn was worth more than gold on the black market. And so, they were hunted to the brink.

By the time the world paid attention, it was too late.

The Final Attempt at Hope

All hope isn’t entirely gone — not yet.

In a groundbreaking effort, scientists have harvested eggs from the remaining females and combined them with frozen s***m from deceased males to create embryos. These embryos are being held in cryogenic storage, waiting for the chance to be implanted into a southern white rhino surrogate, a close relative that could carry the species forward.

But this is experimental. Risky. And even if successful, it cannot undo the silence that now echoes in the places these animals once roamed freely.

A Mirror to Ourselves

The extinction of the northern white rhino is more than a tragedy. It’s a reflection of our choices — and our consequences.

A creature that outlived empires, that stood tall when humans were still learning to walk upright, is now gone — because we wanted trophies, profits, and status.

It’s not just the end of a species.

It’s the end of a chapter in Earth’s story — one that we wrote in greed, neglect, and too little, too late compassion.
