🇰🇷 Korean Phrase of the Day

식단 합니다 (sik-dan ham-ni-da) — “I’m on a diet”
밥 굶습니다 (bap gulm-seum-ni-da) — “I’m skipping meals”

📌 Grammar note: 굶다 is much stronger than “skip” — it literally means “to starve.” If you just mean skipping a meal casually, Koreans often use 거르다 instead (밥을 걸렀어요 = “I skipped a meal”).

라/마라 = Korea’s blunt, written command form — you’ll see it in quotes, book titles, and proverbs (not something you’d say to a friend casually!)

🔹 비교하지 마세요 — polite “please don’t compare”

지독하게 = intensely/terribly + 잤습니다 = slept (formal)
= a false friend that trips up learners every time 👀

Breakdown:

• 알리다 = to inform, to let know (base verb)
• -어/아 드리다 = humble honorific form, used when doing something for someone of equal or higher status

So 알려드리다 = “to (humbly) tell/inform you” — it’s the polite, service-oriented version of “알려주다” (to tell/let someone know, more casual/neutral).

Comparison:

• 알려줄게 → “I’ll let you know” (casual, to a friend)
• 알려드릴게요 → “I’ll let you know” (polite, to a customer/elder/boss)
• 알려드리겠습니다 → “I will inform you” (very formal, common in announcements/business)
