The word "Canteen" had a different significance during Narendrapur days. It was not the usual one as we see in college campuses or government hostels. It was one of the most wanted places during the visiting days ( 2nd and 4th sundays of the month ) . Guardians bought food items and consumables for their wards from this canteen. You can very well find a different queue in the image exclusive for the students. Those were the guys who lived in far off places and didnt have the comfort of meeting their family members so regularly. They had the option to buy stuffs from the canteen with the help of a canteen slip. And again this slip needed to be signed by some teachers or hostel wardens. And thus a queue followed in front of the teacher's rooms or offices just for the sake of an autograph.
