🧘 Basic Certificate Course on Pātañjalayogasūtra

Dhāraṇā (धारणा) means holding the mind steady on one point—deep concentration or one-pointed focus.

In the yogic tradition, especially in Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtras, Dhāraṇā is the 6th limb of Aṣṭāṅga Yoga, coming after Pratyāhāra (withdrawal of senses) and before Dhyāna (meditation).

Dhāraṇā = concentration (fixing the mind on one object)
Dhyāna = meditation (continuous flow toward that object)
Samādhi = complete absorption (union with the object)
Sanskrit Śloka (Yoga Sūtra 3.1)

देशबन्धश्चित्तस्य धारणा ॥ ३.१ ॥
deśa-bandhaś cittasya dhāraṇā ॥ 3.1 ॥

Meaning:
“Dhāraṇā is the binding (fixing) of the mind to one place/object.”

Simple explanation

If you keep your whole attention on:

1. your breath,
2. a mantra (like ॐ),
3. a flame,
4. the space between the eyebrows,
5. or one divine form,

#धारणा

Inhale peace, exhale gratitude for the Earth.
Yoga connects us to the universe within and the planet around us.
Let’s live consciously and protect our beautiful home. 🌏🧘

The Earth doesn’t belong to us — we belong to the Earth.
Yoga reminds us that the same prana (life energy) flows through our breath, the trees, the oceans, and the soil beneath our feet.
This Earth Day, let your practice be gratitude for the planet that sustains every breath. 🌏

स्वविषयासम्प्रयोगे चित्तस्य स्वरूपानुकार इवेन्द्रियाणां प्रत्याहारः ॥५४॥

Transliteration:
Svaviṣayāsaṁprayoge cittasya svarūpānukāra ivendriyāṇāṁ pratyāhāraḥ.

Meaning:
Pratyāhāra is the withdrawal of the senses from their external objects, allowing the senses to follow the nature of the mind rather than being controlled by outside stimuli.
