Specifically in the case of horror films and haunted houses, the usage of infrasound contributes to viewers' or guests' feelings of “uneasiness, anxiety, fear and anger” and naturally puts them more on edge as they begin to anticipate the next scare.
Many horror films are known to have used infrasound with both the 2007 film Paranormal Activity and 2002 French psychological-horror film Irréversible heavily utilizing infrasonic sound to create chilling sound effects.
Within horror films the main stereotypical sound effects used include; creaking doors, foot steps, wolf howling, owls hooting, bats, echoes voices, storm, etc.
