About the speaker:
Professor Dina M. Siddiqi is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Faculty of Global Liberal Studies at New York University. Her research, grounded in the study of Bangladesh, joins development studies, transnational feminist theory, and the anthropology of Islam and human rights. She has published extensively on supply chain capitalism and the global garment industry on gender justice and Muslim women, and the cultural politics of nationalism. Her publications are available at https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Dina-Siddiqi. Professor Siddiqi is on the advisory board of Dialectical Anthropology, and serves on the editorial board of Routledge’s Women in Asia Publication Series. She sits on the Executive Committee of the American Institute of Bangladesh Studies (AIBS); is on the Advisory Committees of the Saida Waheed Gender Initiative, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and of the South Asian feminist network SANGAT. She has frequently collaborated with Bangladeshi human rights organizations including Ain o Salish Kendra, Nagorik Uddyog, and Bangladesh Legal and Services Trust (BLAST).

The Department of History, Presidency University, cordially invites you to a presentation in its "Web Lecture Series" by Professor Francis Robinson titled "On How Since 1800 Islamic Societies have been built from below".
Francis Robinson is Professor of the History of South Asia, Royal Holloway, University of London. His research interests lie in the history of the Islamic world since the eighteenth century. He has particular interests in religious change, learned and holy men and Islam in South Asia. He has published 14 books on aspects of of the Muslim world. Key publications include: Jamal Mian: The Life of Jamaluddin Abdul Wahab of Farangi Mahall, 1919-2012 (Karachi: Oxford University Press, 2018; New Delhi: Primus, 2020); Ulama of Farangi Mahall and Islamic Culture in South Asia (New Delhi: Permanent Black, 2001) etc.
