The Aashish Khan School of World Music has been inspired by the Sarode Legend Ustad Aashish Khan.

A first time initiative to pass on the tradition of Miyan Tansen by the Ustad to a young and interested India. The institution follows the traditional values of imparting musical education set by Baba Allauddin Khan, grandfather and guru of Ustad Aashish Khan. The school adheres to the authentic teaching style of Maihar Senia Gharana founded by Baba Allauddin in Maihar, Madhya Pradesh. Ustad Aashi

An enchanting evening of melody and rhythm at Sangeet Samarpan to our Guruji Ustad Aashish Khan Sahib.

The Flute Recital by Pandit Nityanand Haldipur, accompanied on Tabla by Pandit Subrata Bhattacharya, unfolded with serenity, depth, and meditative beauty.

Pandit Nityanand Haldipur’s flute resonated with purity of tone and emotive expression, weaving intricate melodic phrases with effortless grace. His alap carried contemplative depth, while the subsequent compositions blossomed with lyrical fluidity and refined artistry.

Pandit Subrata Bhattacharya’s sensitive and nuanced tabla accompaniment provided a steady yet dynamic rhythmic foundation, enhancing the melodic journey with precision, restraint, and subtle layakari.

Together, they created a musical experience that was both spiritually elevating and artistically profound — a heartfelt offering in reverence to Guruji and the enduring legacy of Indian classical music.

Day 1 of Sangeet Samarpan to our Guruji Ustad Aashish Khan Sahib concluded with an explosive and unforgettable presentation by Maestro Bickram Ghosh’s Rhythmscape.

With Vidwan S. Sekhar (Mridangam), Pulak Sarkar (Keyboards), Abhishek Mallick (Sitar), Nirmalya Roy (Vocals), and Satyajit Mukherjee (Drums), the ensemble delivered a powerhouse performance marked by intricate rhythmic divisions, breathtaking tempo transitions, and electrifying ensemble precision.

The rhythmic dialogues were complex yet cohesive, technical yet thrilling — leaving the audience in awe of the sheer command and creative energy on stage.

A special highlight was the presentation of Ustad Aashish Khan Sahib’s track “Shanti”, performed as a tribute to the legendary Guruji. The tribute carried both reverence and dynamism, beautifully bridging memory and celebration.

Adding to the emotional gravity of the evening, Maestro Bickram Ghosh shared personal recollections of Ustad Aashish Khan Sahib, enriching the concert with stories that connected legacy with lived experience.

It was powerful. It was dynamic. It was a spectacular and fitting grand finale to Day 1.

Pandit Partha Bose on Sitar, accompanied by Ustad Sabir Khan on Tabla, presented a recital of profound depth and classical brilliance. The performance beautifully reflected the timeless aesthetics of the Maihar lineage, unfolding with serenity, virtuosity, and emotive expression.

Pandit Partha Bose’s nuanced alap, intricate jod, and dynamic g*t compositions resonated with clarity and devotion, while Ustad Sabir Khan’s masterful accompaniment elevated the recital through sensitive layakari, tonal richness, and rhythmic precision.

Together, they created a musical dialogue that honored the spirit of guru–shishya parampara and paid a heartfelt tribute to our revered Guruji.

The festival commenced with a powerful and deeply evocative Tabla Solo Recital by Shri Indranil Mallick, with soulful harmonium accompaniment by Pandit Hiranmay Mitra.

Shri Indranil Mallick unfolded the rhythmic canvas with remarkable clarity, virtuosity, and traditional depth, presenting a repertoire that balanced strength and sensitivity. His command over layakari, tonal clarity, and compositional structure reflected years of dedicated training and reverence for the guru–shishya parampara.

Pandit Hiranmay Mitra’s harmonium accompaniment provided graceful melodic support, enhancing the rhythmic dialogue with sensitivity and refinement.

This opening performance set a dignified and spiritually resonant tone for Sangeet Samarpan to our Guruji Ustad Aashish Khan Sahib, marking the beginning of a festival rooted in gratitude, devotion, and musical excellence.
