Pfithu was just 16 years old when she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Not to be let down by the life-threatening disease, the Pochury Naga girl went on to win the 'Miss Phek 2019' title at a recently-concluded ceremony in Pfutsero town of Phek district in Nagaland.
With her own story to tell, Pfithu now wishes to make a difference in society, one rhinestone at a time.
"As a child, I always wanted to wear the crown," said 18-year-old Pfithu in an interaction with media persons in Kohima on Tuesday evening.
Pfithu's "dark phase" in her life began at a tender age when she lost her father in 2013 and was later diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2016.
She recalled how her people criticised her because she was born to a family with no male descendents and how her sickness had added to the misery. "Some were of the opinion that I was cursed. Many had discouraged me in the course of fighting the disease and in no time insecurities and inferiority developed over me," she recalled.
"I started gathering all my broken pieces, piece by piece. I started to develop the passion of exploring myself from within me and started sharing what I have, to the people who need to hear me. I realised I have the desire to be a beauty queen and so I started off my journey," she said.
With the support of her family and her unending determination, she was crowned Miss Phek 2019 besides winning the 'Miss Ramp Walk' sub-title. Pfethu, who is now under medication, will be attending her next treatment in Guwahati, Assam in December this year.
When asked about what she aspires to become, she expressed her desire to make it big in the beauty sector. "Even if I fail, the experience will be worth it," she added.
With a similar story to tell, first runner up MĂźnulu Chizo from Komi village expressed how she has come a long way to love herself. She shared about how she had to convince her father for her participation in the contest. "We should never let imperfection pull us down," she said.
Meanwhile, second runner up RangulĂź Keyho from Phek village said that while the pageant has positively influenced her, she wishes to become a social anthropologist. Source- Khrolo Baba@ The Nagas.
