For students in Mon and Peren, a better school can begin with something as simple as having the right space.

A resting shed where they can gather.
A greenhouse where they can observe, grow and learn.
A school environment that gives their curiosity room to breathe.

This is part of the District Empowerment Program—a three-year effort working with schools across Mon and Peren to strengthen learning spaces, teaching, school leadership and community participation.

Lasting change cannot come from improving just one part of a school. The whole school community has to move forward together.

The students and teachers will show us what that looks like.

At Greenwood Higher Secondary School, teachers take time to pause, reflect, and look at how emotions shape the way they teach, communicate, and connect.

The Empathy in Action FOCUS Session creates space to explore self-awareness, empathy, trust, and psychological safety through real school situations.

There’s a point in most teaching careers where the learning quietly stops. Not the teaching. The learning.

Training goes to the new hires. Somewhere around year ten, the system decides you’ve figured it out — while the classroom, and now AI, keeps changing under you.

Maple Tree School didn’t wait for that to become a problem. They looked at their staff room — teachers with two years and teachers with twenty — and understood what their people needed before anyone told them. So they reached out.

A NagaEd FOCUS session spends a day on the parts of teaching that don’t show up in a syllabus — the emotional side of the work, handling conflict, asking sharper questions, using AI with judgment instead of fear.

Because students don’t just learn from what a teacher knows. They learn from a teacher who’s still learning.

On International Youth Day 2026, our Co-founder, Shiroi Lily Sanyu, joined the panel at Modern College, Piphema, alongside young people, educators, and practitioners to reflect on the opportunities and challenges shaping the lives and futures of youth in Nagaland.

From quality education and livelihoods to gender equality, social inclusion, and climate resilience, the conversation was a reminder that meaningful change begins when we create spaces to listen, question, and engage.

Grateful to North East Network, the NSS units of Modern College, Piphema, and fellow panellists Dezie Khamo, Babli Basumatary, and Akho Phira for a conversation worth continuing.

What happens when you ask a teacher to stop and reflect — not on their students, but on themselves?

In Mon and Peren, we found out.

Over two days, educators, school leaders, and district officials sat with one question: how well do you understand yourself — and the people in front of you every day? Through the DISC self-assessment and the Empathy Ladder, they began to answer it.

94% of Peren participants rated the workshop ‘Very Satisfied’. Every single one wants more teachers in the room.

This is the A.C.E in Transformative Teaching workshop, we conducted for District Empowerment Programme, working across Mon and Peren to build schools where teachers lead with awareness, and teach with empathy.

Students at Nagaland University’s School of Agricultural Sciences sat with NagaEd founder Kevisato Sanyu — not for a lecture, but for an honest conversation about building something when the odds aren’t obvious.

The question wasn’t “how do I start a business.”
It was “what happens if I fail?”

He talked about fear. About starting a digital education company in the Northeast when people weren’t sure it was possible. About what happens when you decide that fear isn’t a reason to stop.
Nagaland produces more qualified graduates than available government positions. That gap isn’t new. What’s newer is the conversation about what sits on the other side of it.
