How to Choose a Good Badminton Racket?
What are the common mistakes made by people while selecting one?
A common mistake made by most people while choosing a badminton racket is that they buy the racket that their favourite badminton player uses!
Use a racket that suits you and works to your strengths. Different people have different playing styles – some play a game of POWER and some a game of CONTROL. So, ask yourself which is the one you want. Its difficult to have both power and control in one racket. However, you can choose to have a balance of both.
Things to Consider When Choosing Your Own Badminton Racket
1. Weight- A heavy racket is considered a power racket, but harder to control. If you want to play a game of control, choose lighter rackets.
2. Balance Point- If your finger is closer to the racket head, it’s a POWER racket having a higher balance point.
If your finger is closer to the racket handle, it’s more of a CONTROL racket having a lower balance point.
3. Stiffness of Shaft- A flexible shaft can bend easily, whereas a stiff shaft can hardly bend. The stiffness of the racket is fixed though we can adjust the weight and balance point of it.
4. Shape of the Frame
You can choose either an isometric (square) frame or a conventional (oval) frame. The only difference between them is the sweet spot- specific area on the string bed of the racket (usually the centre of the string bed). A shuttlecock will only be hit excellently if it lands on the sweet spot of the string bed.
Square frame has a larger sweet spot, but oval frame has smaller. Now-a-days, square frame is popular.
