What is National Flag Day?
Date Observed: July 22

It commemorates the day in 1947 when the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Indian National Flag in its present form.

Not to be confused with Armed Forces Flag Day (December 7).

🇮🇳 Indian National Flag Facts:
Adopted On:
🗓️ July 22, 1947, just before India’s independence on August 15.

Designed By:
🎨 Pingali Venkayya, a freedom fighter and Indian independence activist.

Colors and Symbolism:

Saffron (Top) – Courage and sacrifice

White (Middle) – Truth, peace, and purity

Green (Bottom) – Prosperity and fertility

Ashoka Chakra (Blue Wheel) – Law of Dharma, 24 spokes represent 24 hours and continuous progress

Ashoka Chakra:
Inspired by the Lion Capital of Ashoka (Sarnath), it replaced the earlier spinning wheel (charkha).

Material & Rules:

Must be made from khadi (handspun cotton or silk).

Flag Code of India dictates how it can be hoisted and displayed.

Flag Code Revision:
Since 2002, Indian citizens are allowed to hoist the national flag on any day (earlier only on national holidays).

Tallest Indian Flag Pole:

Located in Attari (Punjab) – 360 ft tall.

Near the Indo-Pak border.

Important Days Related to the Flag:

Independence Day (Aug 15) – Flag hoisting by the Prime Minister

Republic Day (Jan 26) – Flag hoisting by the President

🕊️ Nelson Mandela: A Life of Courage and Change 🇿🇦

Born on July 18, 1918, Nelson Mandela dedicated his life to the fight against apartheid and injustice in South Africa. After 27 years in prison, he emerged not with bitterness — but with a vision of peace, equality, and unity. 🌍

In 1994, he became South Africa’s first Black President, leading with compassion and reconciliation. Mandela taught the world that forgiveness is power, and that one voice can change a nation. 🕊️
