ഒരു അദ്ധ്യാപകദിന ചിന്ത

മറഞ്ഞുകിടന്ന സത്യങ്ങളെ ശിഷ്യരിലങ്കുരുപ്പിക്കുന്ന വ്യക്തിയാണ് ഗുരു. ചുറ്റുപാടുകളെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള കേവലം വിവരങ്ങളുടെ കൈമാറ്റത്തിനപ്പുറമുള്ള ജ്ഞാനസ്നാന പ്രവൃത്തിയാണത്. സത്യം പുതുതായി നിർമ്മിക്കപ്പെടുന്നതോ ഗുരുവിൽനിന്നും ശിഷ്യനിലേക്ക് കൈമാറ്റം ചെയ്യപ്പെടുന്ന വസ്തുവോ അല്ല. അക്ഷരമായി എക്കാലവുമുള്ളതും എല്ലാ മനസ്സുകളിലും തിരിച്ചറിയാതെ മറഞ്ഞു കിടക്കുന്നതുമായവയത്രെ സത്യങ്ങൾ. അവയെ തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ ശിഷ്യനെ സഹായിക്കുക മാത്രമാണ് ഗുരു ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഈ പ്രക്രിയയിലൂടെ ശിഷ്യനിൽ ജ്ഞാനം വന്നു നിറയുന്നു. ഇത് ഗുരുവും ശിഷ്യനും ചേർന്നു നടത്തുന്ന കൂട്ടായ പ്രവൃത്തിയാകയാൽ അവിടെ ഗുരുവും ജ്ഞാനസ്നാനം ചെയ്യപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇരുവരും ജ്ഞാനത്തിൻറെ കൂട്ടുകാരായി മാറുന്നു. രണ്ടു വ്യക്തികൾക്കു പരസ്പരം കൈവരിക്കാനാകുന്ന സൌഹൃദത്തിൻറെ മൂർഥന്യം എപ്പോഴും ഗുരു-ശിഷ്യ ബന്ധത്താലായിരിക്കും.

മനസ്സിൻറെ അന്തർസാഗരങ്ങളിൽ മറഞ്ഞുകിടന്നിരുന്ന ജ്ഞാനം തിരിച്ചറിയുമ്പോഴാണ് ഒരാൾ അയാളെ തിരിച്ചറിയുക. ശിഷ്യനെ അതിനു തുണയ്ക്കുന്ന ഗുരുവിൻറെ പ്രവൃത്തി ഒരു ദിവ്യപ്രവൃത്തി തന്നെയാണ്. ജ്ഞാനോദയത്തിലൂടെ മാത്രമാണ് ഒരാൾക്ക് സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യത്തിൻറെ ഉത്തുംഗമായ സീമകളിലേക്ക് ഉയരാനാവുക. നിയന്ത്രിതരാകാതെയിരിക്കാനുള്ള അവസ്ഥ മാത്രമാണ് സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യമെങ്കിൽ അത് യഥാർത്ഥ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യമല്ല. ജ്ഞാനോദയത്തിലൂടെ ശിഷ്യനെ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യത്തിലേക്ക് എടുത്തുയർത്തുന്ന ഗുരു അയാളുടെ രക്ഷകനും വിമോചകനുമായി മാറുന്നു. അതു ലഭിക്കുന്ന പഠിതാവിൽ രൂപാന്തരണം വന്ന് അയാളൊരു പുതു വ്യക്തിയായി മാറുന്നു. ഇത് പുനരുത്ഥാനവും പുതുജനനവുമാണ്. ഇരുവർക്കും.

മോഹത്തിൻ്റെ (desire) ചലന വഴികൾ

കാമനകളാല്‍ (libido) ഉല്‍പ്പാദിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന മോഹം (desire) ആണ് സകലജീവജാലങ്ങളിലുമെന്നപോലെ മരുഷ്യരുടെയും ജീവിതത്തിൻറെ ചാലകകശക്തി.
കടലിന് ഉപ്പെന്നപോലെ, അഗ്നിക്ക് ചൂടെന്നപോലെ, സൂര്യനു വെളിച്ചമെന്നപോലെ, ജീവിക്കുന്ന ഓരോ ശരീരങ്ങളുടെയും സാരാംശമായ മോഹം മനുഷ്യരില്‍ അഭിലാഷങ്ങൾ ഉണര്‍ത്തിക്കൊണ്ട് അവരെ തുടര്‍ന്നും ജീവിക്കാന്‍ പ്രേരിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. മോഹങ്ങളുടെ പൂര്‍ത്തീകരണത്തിലൂടെ മാത്രമാണ് മനുഷ്യനു സഫലമായി ജീവിക്കാന്‍ കഴിയുക. 'ഒരു അണക്കെട്ടില്‍ നിറഞ്ഞുനില്‍ക്കുന്ന ജലമെന്നപോലെ ശരീരങ്ങളില്‍ തുളുമ്പിനില്‍ക്കുന്ന കാമന അഭീഷ്ട വസ്തുക്കളിലേക്ക് ഒഴുകിയെത്താനും അവയുമായി സംശ്ളേഷണംചെയ്യപ്പെടുവാനുമാണ് ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നത്' എന്ന് ഫ്രോയ്ഡ് വിവരിക്കുന്നു. രണ്ടു ശരീരങ്ങളുടെ കാമനാപരമായ സംയോഗമാണ് പ്രണയമായിത്തീരുന്നത്. മനുഷ്യർ അവരുടെ ആഗ്രഹവസ്തുക്കളെ കണ്ടെത്തുകയും അവയുമായി കൂടിക്കലരുകയും ചെയ്യുമ്പോഴാണ് മോഹപരമായി ജീവിതം സഫലമായിത്തീരുക. ആഗ്രഹവസ്തുവിനെ ബലാല്ക്കാരേണ പിടിച്ചടക്കുകവഴിയല്ല ഇതു സാദ്ധ്യമായിത്തീരുക. ആഗ്രഹവസ്തുവിലേക്ക് നീണ്ടുചെന്ന് അതിനെ നിര്‍വൃതമാക്കുകയാണ് മോഹത്തിൻറെ വഴി. മോഹപരമായ സമ്പര്‍ക്കങ്ങളുടെ നിരന്തരമായ പ്രസരണവും സംസ്ഥാപനവുമാണ് മനുഷ്യജീവിതത്തെ അര്‍ഥപൂര്‍ണ്ണമാക്കി മാറ്റുന്നത്. പക്ഷേ, ഇന്നത്തെ മാനവസംസ്ക്കാരം മനുഷ്യരെ അവരുടെ യഥാര്‍ത്ഥ മോഹവസ്തുക്കളിലേക്ക് എത്താനനുവദിക്കാതെ ജീവിതനിറവുകള്‍ ഇല്ലാതാക്കിത്തീര്‍ക്കുന്നു. അത് യഥാര്‍ത്ഥ മോഹവസ്തുവിനെ മറച്ചു പിടിക്കയും മറ്റുവസ്തുക്കളെ പകരമായി വെയ്ക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. അസംഖ്യം ഉപഭോഗവസ്തുക്കളെയാണ് സമൂഹം ഇന്ന് മോഹവസ്തുക്കളായി ഉയര്‍ത്തിക്കാട്ടുന്നത്. അതിനും പുറമെ ധനം, പദവി, പ്രതാപം എന്നിവ നേടുന്നതിലുടെ ഒരാള്‍ക്കു ലഭിക്കുന്ന സാമൂഹികമായ അംഗീകാരവും അത് വ്യക്തിത്വത്തിനു ചാര്‍ത്തുന്ന ചിഹ്നപരമായ മൂല്യവുമാണ് ജീവിതപൂര്‍ത്തിക്കുവേണ്ടത് എന്ന് അതു പ്രചരിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. അവ നേടാനാവാത്ത ജീവിതങ്ങള്‍ വ്യര്‍ത്ഥജീവിതങ്ങളാണെന്ന ധാരണ പരത്തുന്നു.

കോവിഡ് വന്നതോടുകൂടി മനുഷ്യർ ഇനിമുതൽ എങ്ങനെ ജീവിക്കണമെന്നത് തീരുമാനിക്കാനുള്ള അവകാശം വൈദ്യശാസ്ത്രം കൈവശപ്പെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുകയാണ്. ഭരണകൂടത്തെയും പോലീസിനേയും ഉപയോഗിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് അവരുടെ സങ്കുചിതമായ കാഴ്ചപ്പാടുകൾ ഇപ്പോൾ നടപ്പിൽ വരുത്തിക്കൊണ്ടൂമിരിക്കുകയാണ്. ഈ സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ ആരോഗ്യത്തെ വൈദ്യശാസത്ര സങ്കല്പനങ്ങള്‍ക്കു വെളിയിലേക്കെത്തിച്ച് പുനര്‍വിചിന്തനം ചെയ്യേണ്ടത് ആവശ്യമായി വന്നിരിക്കുകയാണ്. രോഗത്തിന്‍റെ അഭാവം എന്നതിനുപകരം ജീവിതത്തിന്‍റെ തീഷ്ണതയെ എന്തുകൊണ്ട് യഥാര്‍ഥ ആരോഗ്യമായി കണ്ടുകൂടാ? അതിരുകവിയുകയും നിറഞൊഴുകുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന ജീവിതം, ആനന്ദത്തിന്‍റെ മൂര്‍ദ്ധന്യം, അതിനെ നമുക്കു മഹാരോഗ്യമെന്നു വിളിക്കാം. ആരോഗ്യത്തെ ശരീരത്തില്‍ കുടികൊള്ളുന്ന ഒരു ഗുണമായി മനസ്സിലാക്കന്നതിനു പകരം നിരന്തരം നവീകരിക്കപ്പെടേണ്ട ഒരു പ്രക്രിയ എന്ന നിലയിലാണ് നോക്കിക്കാണേണ്ടത്. മനുഷ്യ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനപഥങ്ങള്‍ സക്രിയമാകുമ്പോള്‍ പ്രവഹിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ശാരീരികോര്‍ജം, പ്രകൃതിയുടെ വിലോഭങ്ങളിലാറാടുമ്പോഴുല്‍പാദിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ഉന്മാദം, പ്രണയത്തിലും നൃത്ത-സംഗീതങ്ങളിലും തീവ്രതരമാകുന്ന ആനന്ദാവസ്ഥകള്‍, ഇവയൊക്കെ ആരോഗ്യത്തിന്‍റെ സ്രോതസ്സുകളായിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇവയെല്ലാം അനഭികാമ്യമെന്നു കാട്ടി മാറ്റി വെയ്ക്കണമെന്നത്രെ ഉപദേശിക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്. ആശ്ലേഷണങ്ങളും കരസ്പർശവും ചുംബനവുമെല്ലാം ഇനിമുതൽ കുറ്റകരമായി മാറുന്നു. ദേഹ രക്ഷചെയ്ത് ജീവിതം കഴിച്ചുകൂട്ടിയാല്‍ മതിയെന്ന ചിന്ത അംഗീകരിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന അപകടമായ സാഹചര്യമാണ് ഇന്നുള്ളത്.

"Difficult Women in Philosophy: Reflections from the Margin"

ABSTRACT: In this paper, we connect diversity with being on the margins of philosophy. We do this by reflecting on the programme that we, as diverse philosophers, designed and taught in a small university. Recently, the programme was closed. We examine some of the circumstances for the closure, in particular the impact of league tables. We argue that an idea (or ideal?) of objectivity, as a method in both science and philosophy, plays a role in establishing and maintaining the outsider status of the philosopher at the margins of the discipline. As a counterpoint to objectivity, we offer concrete examples of our experiences to illustrate what it is like to be at the margins of philosophy. We end with an examination of topics that are common to academics, i.e. issues of time and resources, that are compounded at the margins. Our paper seeks to show what is lost by the closure of our programme, and what philosophy loses when marginalised philosophers are silenced and/or excluded from key academic discourse. We argue that the particular contribution of the philosopher at the margin offers an important and irreplaceable contribution to discourses on the identity of philosophy and on the value of diversity.

Shabarimala : The Tussle Between Modernity and the Premodern.

The ongoing tussle is a conflict between pre-modern world of faith and modernity. Modernity, which is the outcome of measuring reality of world and things through reason. Reason cannot understand differences. Things which could not be explained through cognitive and propositional logic is considered by reason as faith and castigated as untruth. In the eyes of reason all men are equal with a universal rational self. Thus there cannot be any differences between African or American or Japanese or Indian cults. Also there shall not be difference between man and woman. This lead to leveling of differences, which is considered as a very serious shortcoming of modernity in the eyes of its contemporary critics, whom are called as post-modernists. Contemporary ideas of equality, secularism and democracy maintained through laws of the courts, thus makes everything uniform, by demolishing differences. But differences should be maintained. The Human ethical world of culture comprises of Myths, poetic, aesthetic and the religious, which cannot be grasped through propositional reason. This realm of culture is what is called as the realm of 'faith' by Hegel. Any Judgments made on them by reason will be reductive, thereby diminution of them under a common general denominator. This is why Hegel criticized enlightenment modernity, for its abandoning of the realm of faith. For him subjective and the objective worlds are not two different realms. Both of them are the product of the same spirit which is the 'Nature'. Faith comes form matter itself. For Hegel faith, religiosity and aesthetic are the higher manifestation of matter itself. Faith is not against progress. For the progress of human happiness, faith is required. Therefore what is needed for humanity in the present history is the amalgamation of the realms of the objective and the subjective.
We can no longer perceive reality and politics in terms of binaries of truth and false, black and white. This world is not comprised of just two types of people who are pre-modern people of faith and modern progressive generation of reason. There is plurality of faiths, experiences and believes. The ethnic conflicts happening all over the world today is meant for preservation of cultural multiplicity. Unless secularist reason will recognize this truth, world will head towards a catastrophe. Our future should be multicultural. Our secularism should evolve more into multiculturalism.
