(Medical images created with PowerPoint tools)

As a medical student I had always been fascinated with the detailed illustrations that accompanied volumes of printed text. After all “One picture is worth more than a thousand words”. Illustrations convey more information than lectures or text alone and is therefore a powerful teaching -learning tool. This is because the human brain perceives visual

information more rapidly, completely and retains it longer in the memory. Over the years I had created a number of illustrations for the purpose of teaching undergraduate medical students. In the earlier days of my teaching profession I found it time consuming to draw neat diagrams using the chalk -board (black board).Later with use of transparencies and overhead projectors matters became bit more straightforward. However the task of creating original illustrations to be used in PowerPoint presentations seemed to be a rather challenging task as I neither had formal computer education nor was I a professional medical illustrator. Off course one could always download excellent digital images from the web but at a price. I felt it was prudent to create my own art work with basic computer software /tools and without any professional help. So I decided to play around with the PowerPoint tools and slowly I found it to be rather easy to create the images that I wanted. Initially these images were used for lecture classes for medical students. Later I started creating such illustrations to be used in medical journals, medical textbooks, scientific presentations and websites and on various other scientific platforms. After my lectures at various conferences I always had people enquiring as to where I get these illustrations and animations from. They were often surprised to know that I had created my own illustrations and animations using just PowerPoint tools. Some of these presentations have been uploaded on ppt websites such as authorstream and slide-share. As for now I have would like to share some of the earlier art works on this page. Thank you

Wilkie's syndrome is a rare cause of duodenal obstruction (incidence: 0.1–0.3%), which is characterised by compression of the third portion of the duodenum between the superior mesenteric artery and aorta due to narrowing of aortomesenteric angle from 45° (range between 38–56°) to about 6–25.Clinical diagnosis requires a high index of suspicion especially in a patient who presents with postprandial abdominal pain, vomiting and a recent history of significant weight loss. Contrast-enhanced CT scan is often diagnostic with typical findings of duodenal distension along with narrowing of the aortomesenteric angle and assessment of retroperitoneal fat.Surgical procedures (laparoscopic/laparotomy) include gastrojejunostomy, loop duodenojejunostomy, Roux-en-Y duodenojejunostomy and Strong's operation (ligament of Treitz division).
