The Rotary Club of Cochin Downtown celebrated its 28th Charter Day alongside the Governor’s Official Visit on 27th March at Holiday Inn, in the presence of District Governor Dr. G. N. Ramesh and dignitaries.

The day featured “Walk with the Governor” at Chellanam with installation of 15 solar lights, a Global Grant Digital Radiography Room plaque unveiling at IGCH, and a Club Assembly followed by a Public Meeting. A Rotary Community Corps at the Juvenile Home was also announced.

Highlights included the Vocational Excellence Award to Fr. Sabu Thomas, recognition of Rotaractors, 100% Polio Fund contribution, bulletin release, member recognitions, and the Charter Night with cake-cutting—celebrating service, fellowship, and Rotary spirit.

As part of the Rotary Week Celebration- " SCREEN OFF – CHEERS ON", a programme initiated by NSS students and Rotaractors of Sacred Heart College, Thevara was conducted as a “No Phone Day.” Students voluntarily deposited their phones on campus and enjoyed a refreshing boat trip filled with games, activities, and lively interactions. A psychologist also delivered a motivational talk during the outing, which concluded with lunch. It was truly a wonderful initiative encouraging real-life connections.

As part of the Rotary week Celebration a speaker meeting was held at Holiday Inn Kochi, where we had the pleasure of hosting PP Maria Martin Quilty, partner of RI Director (2027–29) – PDG Steve Martin. Rtn. Maria, who is a retired police officer and Past President of the Rotary Club of Royden Revolve, Liverpool, shared valuable insights into her Rotary journey and spoke about the impactful diverse projects they have undertaken. She was greeted with Rotary Club of Cochin Downtown, District 3205 – India flag and presented with a Memento & Silver Jubilee Souvenir as a token of appreciation.

As part of the Rotary Week Celebration - Health Talk on the prevention of Cervical Cancer and the HPV Vaccine was conducted at PS Mission Hospital. The session was led by Dr. Vineetha Rijju from Aster Medcity and was attended by nursing students, along with the staff and faculty of the hospital. Many students expressed keen interest in taking the HPV vaccine, and a subsidised vaccination camp is being planned at the hospital shortly.

A touching display of compassion was held on 18th February 2026, at Sacred Heart College, Thevara. 20 destitute people were provided with a warm breakfast at the Sacred Heart College canteen as part of the Thanalmaram initiative led by the Rotaractors of Sacred Heart College, Thevara. Before leaving each person was gifted a thoughtfully prepared kit of groceries sponsored by Rotary Club of Cochin Downtown. English Professor & NSS Coordinator Fr. Sabu Thomas also was present to motivate the destitutes.

A family meet on Valentine’s Day, was organised by the Rhythm Fireside group. The evening was beautifully curated by Fireside leader Sneha Thomas and her team. After the formal meeting, the celebrations began with romantic songs, love stories, games and a spectacular dance performance by the Anns. The theme was colours of red, pink, blue, yellow, and white. Birthdays and Wedding Anniversaries for the month of February was also celebrated by cutting a cake.

“Ripples of Life” – An Organ Donation Awareness Initiative

On 31 January 2026, the Rotary Club of Cochin Downtown organised “Ripples of Life,” an organ donation awareness initiative at the Regional Sports Centre, Kadavanthara, inspired by the vision of District Governor Rtn. Dr. G. N. Ramesh.

The programme was inaugurated by the Hon. Health Minister of Kerala, Smt. Veena George, in the presence of 1,800 NSS students from 32 colleges in Ernakulam District and Rotaractors. The initiative aimed to educate, inspire, and honour the life-changing impact of organ donation.

The event was organised in association with the Liver Foundation of Kerala, IMA Kochi, K-SOTTO, Regional Sports Centre, and NSS units of MG University, and was graced by Shri Hibi Eden, MP; Rtn. Dr. G. N. Ramesh, District Governor 3205; First lady Jayshree; Rtn. Kochouseph Chittilappilly, Founder, V-Guard Group; District Chair – Organ Donation Dr. Rtn. Sunil K. Mathai; President Rtn. Major Susie Paul; Secretary Rtn. Saji Chandran; along with eminent transplant surgeons and medical experts including Padma Bhushan Dr. Jose Chacko Periappuram, Dr. S. Sudhindran, Dr. Charles Panakal, Dr. Dinesh Balakrishnan, Dr. Mathew Jacob, and Dr. Subramania Iyer.”

Rotary Club of Cochin Downtown on 28th January 2026 organised a curtain raiser to the "Ripples of Life" - Organ Donation Awareness Initiative to be held on 31st January at RSC – a 40 member bike rally carrying placards of Organ Donation Awareness was flagged off from Thammanam by the newly elected President of KVVES and they were received at RSC. District Governor Dr GN Ramesh and other dignitaries from IMA, LIFOK, RSC, KVVES, President Rtn. Major Susie Paul, District Chair- Organ donation Rtn. Dr Sunil Mathai, Secretary Rtn. Saji Chandran and members of Rotary Club of Cochin Downtown attended the event.

The Rotary Club of Cochin Downtown handed over equipment worth ₹77000 to the Autism Centre at SRV School, Ernakulam, in a warm and meaningful ceremony held on 22nd December.
The event was inaugurated by President Rtn. Major Susie Paul in the presence of Secretary Rtn. Saji Chandran, Rtn Padmaraj, Rtn Smita Krishnan, Rtne Jessy Joseph, Mr Elias Mathew( BPC), Ms Anupama( District Programme Officer), Jitheesh ( Cluster Coordinator), K V P Krishnakumar (Councillor ), Ms Monisha and School authorities along with the children of the Autism Centre and their parents.
