36th School Raising Day

Greetings everyone, hope you and your families are doing fine :)
These are testing times, therefore it's imperative that we share our thoughts and also find support in each other's point of views that bring us closer together. Especially when they are of extreme relevance and impact the society. That is what education strives to achieve.
Just a few days ago, the debate around the 'BoisLockerRoom' had picked steam on social media and domestic and international dailies. And for all the right reasons it also found its way towards addressing some very important points that have been raised by a few NCS, Kochi Alumini in their posts earlier on this page.
What compelled me to write this post was not just the reason to support this discussion but because of the concerns raised in the private messages that have been filling the DM's of this page. One message sent was particularly interesting.
The sender requested me- "To dilute the visibility of one of these posts by not allowing it to be shared. Since it had been 'shared multiple times' it would be damaging the reputation of the school".
As a responsible admin, I will withhold the sender's identity, to respect not just their point of view, but also their privacy. Having said that, I want to remind all those that may share a similar concern, to an important message of one of the former Principals of NCS, Kochi during my time.
Retd. Cdr PC Mathew (Former NCS Principal) used to often say in his speeches that as fellow NCS students "we all are ambassadors" of this reputed organization. Our actions reflect the ethos and the values this organisation stands for. And therefore reflecting onto a flaw does not diminish in any way the reputation of this or any organisation. Infact it only strengthens its image to show others and be an example that we not only educate our students but allow them to question and think, where mistakes can be highlighted and corrected freely and constructively.
This is what every school MUST stand for. And I think PC Mathew sir too tried to reflect the same in his progressive motto that went on to become NCS, Kochi's mantra i.e, 'I can, I will, I must'.
Topics of gender sensitivity, s*x education must be taught to our school's boys and girls young and in a responsible manner, I'm aware many such initiatives have taken place by NCS, Kochi but it is not enough.
A very small start towards this direction could be, for NCS, Kochi to host the next inter house debate online given the circumstances we are all in. As ambassadors we can help bring this change, I know there are many fantastic debaters amongst us, who can offer to mentor via video chat their services and guidance to our students. I'm sure many would be more than happy to initiate it.
Nevertheless, I fully understand and respect any other point of view than this, since I personally believe that none of us are arbiters of truth and none of us must have all the solutions, which is why to imbibe a culture of continuous questioning must be allowed. It allows all of us to seek a resolution collectively. Only this can break pedestals. Hope all the posts earlier are taken in this very spirit.
Stay safe all of you 🙂
A proud NCS ambassador
P.S- Incase I recieve any requests directly from the office of NCS, Kochi or staff to take down the earlier post, I'm happy to oblige, however I really hope it does not come to that.
