Smitha K.T. Pillai was awarded the title of Yoga Siromani (Teacher of Yoga, diploma no. 29656) by Swami Swaropananda of the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre on April 14, 2012. This prestigious school is located at scenic Neyyar Dam and has long attracted serious students internationally. Those aspiring to learn authentic yoga by a certified Sivananda teacher should always ask to see a teacher's certificate.

Smitha has always been interested in augmenting the teachings she can offer and practice, and in that spirit obtained Reiki first and second level certification from the Athma Spiritual Science Academy in Kottayam, "South India's No. 1 Wellness Training Centre," from Er. Bibin K. Kesavan. She has two diplomas in psychological counselling. From Dr. Paul Pulikkan, the Chair for Christian Studies and Research at the University of Calicut she received a diploma, placing second in her class (Reg. No. W/368. She earned another certificate in counselling from the Academic Council of the Winner's World Foundation Institute of Counselling and Behavioral Science in Ernakulam, training for 203 class hours and 7 months. This institute also awarded her a Certificate of Participation for completing the advanced course in Enneagram in 2013

Smith Pillai has natural instincts for teaching, and has been an instructor in Cochin, Kerala, in a variety of subjects, including Bharatanatyam and Hindi, for many years. After being inspired to take training as a teacher from the famous Yoga Vedanta Forest Academy (headquarters at The International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center in Quebec, Canada), she has been using her 7 years of experience in yoga to help students balance their bodies and minds.
