Chatroo Turns the Page: A Determined March Toward Peace

For years, the rugged mountains and dense forests of Chatroo in District Kishtwar were exploited by militants seeking to disturb the peace of this otherwise serene region. The difficult terrain, towering ridges, and remote valleys often provided temporary shelter to those who chose the path of violence over harmony.

But history has now taken a decisive turn.
After sustained and intelligence-driven operations, the Indian Army’s 11 Rashtriya Rifles under 5 Sector, along with other security agencies, carried out relentless counter-insurgency efforts in the region. Their perseverance, strategic planning, and unwavering resolve culminated in the dismantling of key militant networks operating in the Chatroo belt.
This was not an overnight success. It was the result of months of coordinated surveillance, ground domination patrols, area sanitization operations, and strong cooperation between security forces and local administration. Troops braved harsh weather, treacherous mountainous terrain, and continuous operational pressure to ensure that the shadow of fear no longer loomed over innocent civilians.
The neutralization of militant leadership in the area marked a significant milestone. More importantly, it symbolized the weakening of an ecosystem that once tried to destabilize the peace of Kishtwar’s remote regions.
Today, Chatroo stands at a crossroads — not of conflict, but of opportunity.
Schools function more regularly. Roads are being restored and expanded. Developmental works are gaining momentum. Local youth are increasingly choosing education, sports, and employment over the false narratives of extremism. The message is clear: violence has no future here.
The wiping out of militancy from the Chatroo area is not merely a tactical victory — it is a victory for the mothers who no longer fear for their sons, for the children who can dream freely, and for the community that longs for lasting stability.
Peace in such regions is secured not just by the barrel of a gun, but by the collective will of the people, the dedication of the armed forces, and the promise of development.
Chatroo’s story is no longer one of fear.
It is becoming a story of resilience, courage, and a future reclaimed. ADGPI - Indian Army Northern Command - Indian Army mykishtwar.com The Alert News Dilsekishtwar Dessa Valley Kishtwar کشتواڑ @

The Long Hunt in Kishtwar – 11 Rashtriya Rifles

The decisive encounter on 21–22 February 2026 near Wani Mohalla, Passerkot in Kishtwar was the culmination of a sustained, intelligence-driven campaign led by 11 Rashtriya Rifles (“Double First”) under the guidance of Headquarters 5 Sector and Delta Force.

Militancy had attempted to re-establish its presence in upper Kishtwar since 2021 under foreign-trained commander Saifullah, who built a survival network using dense forests, high-altitude shelters, and an OGW chain. His group was responsible for multiple attacks, including the 2024 ambush in which four soldiers, including Naik Arvind and Naib Subedar Vipin of 11 RR, were martyred.

Through systematic intelligence build-up, dismantling of hideouts, disruption of supply lines, and sustained area domination, 11 RR gradually weakened the network. In early February 2026, a key associate, Aadil, was neutralised, further isolating the group.

Acting on credible intelligence on 21 February 2026, troops executed a well-coordinated operation using surprise movement, layered cordons, and continuous drone surveillance. After confirming terrorist presence and ensuring civilian safety, security forces engaged in a close-quarter firefight. The terrorists were boxed in and eliminated through precise and controlled action, including rocket launcher fire.

Saifullah, Farman, and Basha were neutralised without any casualties to security forces.

The operation marked the complete dismantling of a long-standing militant module in upper Kishtwar and restored operational dominance in the region. It stands as a testament to the professionalism, patience, and resolve of 11 Rashtriya Rifles and supporting formations.
