A Historic Milestone in Advancing AI, Innovation & Technology in Tripura

In a landmark step towards building a future-ready innovation ecosystem in Northeast India, IIT Kharagpur, the Department of Information Technology, Government of Tripura, and Senrysa Technologies Limited signed a Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026 to establish a first-of-its-kind Centre of Excellence & Innovation Hub in Tripura.

Bringing together the strengths of academia, government, and industry, the Centre will serve as a catalyst for next-generation education, cutting-edge research, responsible AI innovation, advanced technology collaboration, skill development, startup incubation, entrepreneurship, and industry-driven solutions—contributing to a sustainable and knowledge-led digital economy for the State.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Suman Chakraborty, Director, IIT Kharagpur; Shri Kumar P. Saha, MD & CEO, Senrysa Technologies Limited; and Shri Jeya Ragul Geshan B., IFS, Director, Information Technology, Government of Tripura, on behalf of the Department of Information Technology.

The agreement was exchanged in the distinguished presence of Dr. V. Anantha Nageswaran, Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India; Shri Jitendra Kumar Sinha, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Tripura; Shri Kiran Gitte, IAS, Secretary, Industries & Commerce and Information Technology, Government of Tripura; and other esteemed dignitaries.

IIT Kharagpur expresses its sincere gratitude to Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura, for his visionary leadership in positioning Tripura as an emerging destination for technology, innovation, and knowledge-driven development.

The Institute also acknowledges Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Hon’ble Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) for their continued support in accelerating innovation and sustainable growth across Northeast India.

Through this transformative partnership, IIT Kharagpur, the Government of Tripura, and Senrysa Technologies Limited are committed to empowering talent, strengthening research–industry collaboration, nurturing startups and entrepreneurs, and positioning Tripura as an emerging hub for AI, deep technology, and innovation.

Where Technology Meets Tradition: A New Partnership for Cultural Innovation

IIT Kharagpur has signed an MoU with Contact Base (banglanatak dot com) to foster an interdisciplinary partnership at the intersection of technology, culture, heritage, and sustainable development.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Suman Chakraborty, Director, IIT Kharagpur, and Mr. Amitava Bhattacharya, Founder-Director, banglanatak dot com, in the presence of Prof. Anandaroop Bhattacharya, Professor-in-Charge, Academy of Classical and Folk Arts (ACFA), and Dean, International Relations, IIT Kharagpur.

Driven by ACFA, the collaboration will explore cultural mapping, digital archiving, AI-enabled preservation of intangible cultural heritage, creative entrepreneurship, experiential learning, and international cultural exchange combining IIT Kharagpur’s technological and research expertise with Contact Base’s deep grassroots engagement with artists and artisan communities.

The partnership builds on the successful collaboration behind the Platinum Jubilee International Folk Music Festival – Sur Jahan 2026, held earlier this year at IIT Kharagpur.

Powering the Future of Deep-Tech Research.

To further strengthen its position as a global hub for cutting-edge research and innovation, IIT Kharagpur has launched FRAME (Funds for Repair, Augmentation and Maintenance of Equipment)—a strategic, high-impact initiative dedicated to modernising, upgrading, and revitalising the Institute's sophisticated R&D infrastructure.

Coordinated by the Office of the Dean, Sophisticated Research Facilities (SRF), FRAME will support preventive maintenance, equipment augmentation and upgradation, prototype development, laboratory modernisation, hands-on equipment-specific training workshops, and enhanced research environments through improved laboratory aesthetics and audiovisual facilities.

With FRAME, IIT Kharagpur reaffirms its commitment to empowering researchers with world-class infrastructure, accelerating innovation, and advancing breakthrough discoveries for national and global impact.

On the occasion of the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, IIT Kharagpur paid heartfelt floral tributes to the eminent educationist, nationalist, and institution builder in a solemn ceremony held at the Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Superspeciality Hospital (SPMSH).

The tribute was led by Prof. Suman Chakraborty, Director IIT Kharagpur, in the presence of the Dean, B.C. Roy Multi Speciality Research Centre (BCRMRC), the Medical Superintendent of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Superspeciality Hospital (SPMSH), the Registrar, faculty members, doctors, dignitaries, staff, and members of the Institute community.

Addressing the gathering, the Director reflected on Dr. Mookerjee's enduring contributions to nation-building, higher education, and public service, inspiring generations to uphold the values of excellence, integrity, and national development. Dr. D. K. Mitra, Dean, BCRMRC, also highlighted Dr. Mookerjee's remarkable legacy, while Dr. Iman Kalyan Samanta, speaking on behalf of the National Medical Organization (NMO), shared insights into his pivotal role in shaping modern India.

Marking the occasion with a commitment to community well-being, Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Superspeciality Hospital also organised a free health check-up and medical consultation camp, reaffirming the Institute's dedication to service and social responsibility.
