The morning of the 80th Independence Day dawned with a profound solemnity at St. Agnes School, Kharagpur. The skies, heavy with the promise of rain, seemed to understand that on a day such as this, the nation must come first. And so, for a while, the rain held itself back, allowing the celebration to begin beneath an open sky.

With the first strains of the National Anthem, the tricolour rose proudly into the morning breeze, hoisted by our Chief Guest of Honour, our Principal, Sr Matilda D’Souza. As the flag unfurled against the sky, there was a stillness that seemed to gather every heart into one — a moment of gratitude, remembrance and pride.

The much-awaited Inter-House March Past soon followed. Aloysia, Marie Des Anges, Josephine and Annunciata marched with measured steps and unwavering spirit, their movements falling into disciplined unison. The distinguished judges — Prativa Halder, Inspector-in-Charge of Kharagpur Police Station; Amal Kumar Barman, Sub-Inspector of Midnapore; and Sr Nitikha — observed every formation, every turn and every carefully measured step.

Then the morning found its rhythm in music and movement. The cultural performances brought colour and warmth to the celebration, with song, dance and recitation carrying the spirit of the nation in their own expressive ways. During the dance, the gentle swaying of the tricolour added grandeur to the occasion, as though the flag itself had joined the celebration, moving gracefully to the pulse of the music.

Amid the applause and spirited cheers, Josephine House emerged victorious, with Annunciata House securing the first runner-up position in the March Past. Yet, beyond the final verdict, every house had written its own little chapter of pride that morning through discipline, artistry, teamwork and an abiding love for the nation.

And perhaps, when the last footsteps faded and the tricolour continued to flutter in the breeze, the morning had left behind something more enduring than a celebration: a reminder that freedom is not simply a chapter in history, but a living legacy entrusted to every generation.

Independence day celebration by our little, brave hearts !

On 13.08.2026 Class IV-D presented a beautiful Assembly on Independence Day.
The program began with a heartfelt prayer, inspired by the words of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. The children remembered and paid tribute to all the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for our country. This was followed by a very touching thought.
Next, we heard the powerful words of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose “Give me blood and I will give you freedom.”
The children then did a March Past and presented our Principal with a handmade mashal, as she too lights the way and guides us every day.After this, the students performed a beautiful skit. It depicted the year 1930, when the British had imposed the Salt Law. No one was allowed to produce or sell salt. The skit showed how one man, with just a stick in his hand, walked for 24 days from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi. He was joined by villagers, and together they broke the unjust Salt Law.
Following the skit, the children sang a melodious song in one voice, showing unity.
The assembly ended with a vibrant dance with the tricolour, because any celebration is incomplete without rhythm and joy.
Finally, the Assembly concluded with the golden words of our Sister.
We are very proud of Class IV-D for their dedication and wonderful performance.

Celebration of India’s Rich Heritage! 🇮🇳✨

Today, the Pre-Primary Department came alive with colours, creativity and patriotism as our little ones participated in a delightful Fancy Dress Competition. 🎭🌈
Dressed as freedom fighters, national symbols, representatives of different states, and various crops and cultural traditions, our young stars beautifully showcased the unity in diversity of India. 🇮🇳
From inspiring freedom fighters to vibrant state costumes and our rich agricultural heritage, every child brought something special to the stage. Their confidence, innocence and enthusiasm made the event truly memorable. ❤️
A big applause to our little performers, their parents and our dedicated teachers for making this celebration so colourful and meaningful! 👏🌸

ZONE D: A REGIONAL RUN TO REMEMBER

CISCE Regional Basketball Tournament 2026
Venue- Kolkata
7–8 August

Eight zones walked into the CISCE Regional Basketball Tournament in Kolkata; Zone D walked out with the crown. Over two days of hard-fought basketball, the Under-19 Boys’ team emerged as the Regional Champions.

The title belonged to a 12-player squad drawn from four schools—a compact constellation of young players who found rhythm in one jersey:

St. Agnes School — 5 players:
Ali Khan, Davis Benny, M. Tanishq, Darsheel Singh, Aaron Vincent

Christopher Day’s School — 3 players:
Puvval Rahul, B. Punit Kumar, Lucky Sigh Bedi

Sacred Heart High School — 3 players:
Victor Simon Joseph, P. Lawrance, Anukul Khatik

St. Joseph School — 1 player:
Abdul Rahim Sana

What followed was more than a tournament victory. It was Zone D basketball at full voltage. Players reading the court, trusting the pass, absorbing pressure and refusing to let momentum slip.
The result: the Zone D Under-19 Boys’ team crowned CISCE Regional Champions 2026.

A championship forged across schools, stitched together by one team spirit. A proud chapter for the players, their coaches, their schools and everyone who stood courtside in spirit.

Veritas voices 2026 ..
Where words come alive with wit and wonder !

The grand and vibrant third and final day of Veritas Voices 2026 the prestigious Eastern Zone Inter-Carmel Schools Literary Fest, was held on 8th August 2026. The day witnessed the enthusiastic and remarkable participation of young learners from Classes III to V.
The event was a joyous tribute to creativity, confidence, and literary brilliance. Students showcased their talents through four captivating and intellectually stimulating events — Elocution, Quiz, Read-a-thon, and Mixed Bag, which included the Spell Bee, Pictionary, and Reader’s Theatre.
Our budding participants displayed outstanding enthusiasm, quick thinking, articulate expression, and a deep-rooted love for language and literature throughout the competitions. Their radiant energy and impressive performances truly made the day memorable.
The day concluded on a warm and celebratory note honouring not just the winners but also the unwavering spirit of participation, collaborative learning, and heartwarming camaraderie that made Veritas Voices 2026 a truly inspiring and enriching experience for all.

Veritas Voices 2026 — Day II

Something was different that morning.
The corridors of St. Agnes School, Kharagpur, seemed to be holding their breath. Laughter mingled with hurried footsteps, papers rustled, rehearsals echoed—and beneath it all lingered the delicious uncertainty of a day whose ending nobody could predict.

Eleven schools participated: Carmel Convent High School MAMC, Carmel High School Burdwan, Carmel School Steel Durgapur, Carmel School Sadew, Carmel High School Kurseong, Carmel School Rani, St. John Mary Vianney English Medium School, St. Agnes School Kharagpur, Carmel School Rourkela, St. Agnes Branch School and Carmel Primary School, 19 Deshapriya Park Road, Kolkata.

The second chapter of Veritas Voices 2026, the Inter-Schools Literary Festival of the Apostolic Carmel Eastern Province Schools, was about to unfold. Nobody yet knew who would have the last word.

First came Hail Shakespeare. The Bard returned, not in dusty pages, but in living voices and dramatic gestures.

Then the weapons changed.
No costumes. No props. Only voices.
Declamation demanded presence, conviction and the courage to make every word count.

But the real battle was waiting.
Debate.
Arguments collided. Voices rose. Logic met logic.
And then, just when the atmosphere seemed serious enough, JAM arrived to disturb the order.
One minute. One topic. No hiding.

The Quiz brought another twist.

Then came Mono Acting—one performer, many worlds.

But all through the day, another question lingered. Who would take the crown?
The answer was locked inside the points.
Day One had left its trail. Day Two had added its own. And when the scores were finally brought together, the suspense ended in a burst of applause.
St. Agnes School, Kharagpur was declared the Best Performing School of Day I & II.

At Veritas Voices, the winners had not simply spoken. They had made their voices impossible to forget.

VERITAS VOICES 2026 — A MAGNIFICENT CELEBRATION OF WORDS, WIT & WISDOM

The First Edition of the Inter-Apostolic Carmel Eastern Province Schools Literary Championship

What happens when eloquence meets intellect, creativity encounters conviction, and young voices are given a magnificent platform to be heard? VERITAS VOICES 2026—a celebration where words transcended the pages of books and transformed into powerful expressions of talent, imagination and thought.

The first edition of Veritas Voices 2026, the Inter-Apostolic Carmel Eastern Province Schools Literary Championship, commenced with great grandeur and fervour at St. Agnes School, Kharagpur, the proud Host School. The event brought together enthusiastic and exceptionally talented young participants from various Carmel schools, creating an atmosphere charged with camaraderie, healthy competition and an abiding love for literature.

The day unfolded as a splendid literary odyssey, with each event providing a distinctive avenue for the participants to showcase their intellectual acumen, artistic flair and oratorical prowess.

The proceedings commenced with the Inauguration Ceremony, setting an inspiring tone for a day devoted to the celebration of language and literary excellence.

The Comic Strip Competition then invited young minds to weave narratives through illustrations, wit and imagination. Participants demonstrated remarkable creativity, transforming simple frames into compelling visual stories.

The Quiz Competition brought forth an exhilarating display of knowledge, presence of mind and quick thinking. The young quizzers navigated challenging questions with remarkable confidence and composure.

The Declamation Competition provided a powerful platform for young orators to breathe life into the written word. With conviction in their voices and passion in their delivery, the participants demonstrated that effective communication is indeed an art.

The Digital Graffiti Competition beautifully married technology with creativity, allowing students to explore contemporary forms of artistic expression while giving their imagination an innovative digital canvas.

The Debate Competition witnessed an enthralling exchange of perspectives, arguments and counterarguments. The participants displayed commendable eloquence, logical reasoning and intellectual maturity, proving that disagreement, when articulated with grace and reason, can be a powerful instrument of learning.

The One-Act Play brought the stage alive with dramatic energy, imagination and theatrical finesse. The performances reflected not merely acting ability, but also teamwork, interpretation, expression and an impressive understanding of the dramatic arts.

The day culminated in the Award Ceremony, where outstanding performances were felicitated and celebrated.

The first day of Veritas Voices 2026 was far more than a competition; it was an exhilarating confluence of intellect, imagination, expression and artistry. It provided a remarkable platform for young voices from across the Carmel family to converge, compete, collaborate and inspire one another.

The triumphs of the day belonged not only to those who carried home medals and accolades, but also to every participant who dared to step forward, speak with conviction, create with imagination and perform with courage. Their enthusiasm and perseverance embodied the true spirit of literary excellence.

A heartfelt appreciation to all the participating Carmel schools, whose presence and spirited involvement enriched the occasion immeasurably. Special commendation goes to St. Agnes School, Kharagpur, the Host School, for providing an inspiring and vibrant setting for this celebration of literary talent and for bringing together young minds in the true spirit of the Carmel family. Special gratitude is extended to Sr. Sarita Menezes A.C, Councillor for Education of the Eastern Province, whose vision, encouragement and steadfast support has been instrumental in nurturing such enriching platforms for the holistic development of our young learners. Her gracious guidance and unwavering commitment to educational excellence continue to inspire and empower the Carmel community.

Congratulations to all the winners, participants, mentors and guiding hands who made Day 1 of Veritas Voices 2026 truly unforgettable!

Together we shine ..
TOGETHERNESS !!

Today at St. Agnes School, Kharagpur, the bright and enthusiastic students of Class IV-C presented a truly beautiful and heartwarming assembly on the theme of "Togetherness".
The assembly began with a magnificent and meaningful skit. Through the skit, the children showcased how every community helper plays a vital and irreplaceable role in the growth of our society. A kind grocer, without whom we would not get our daily essentials. A caring doctor, without whom we would not get timely treatment. A dedicated traffic police officer, without whom rules and discipline on the roads would be missing.
And the hardworking farmers, who delivered the most beautiful message:-"Just as crops grow together in a field, we too must grow together in unity."
The students also honored the selfless teachers who guide us every day, and the innocent, cheerful children who are the true symbols of love and purity.Next, in a wonderfully creative display, the children placed individual blocks one by one to beautifully form the word TOGETHERNESS. It was a powerful visual that reminded us:-we are stronger when we are one.
After that, the students offered a soulful prayer. This was followed by a graceful and synchronized dance. The beautiful hand movements in the dance symbolized unity, harmony, and togetherness.
The assembly then continued with a melodious and inspiring song that filled everyone’s hearts with joy.Finally, the message was made even more valuable and impactful by the wise and motivating words of our respected Principal.
The children enjoyed every moment of the assembly and learned a precious lesson:-Unity is strength, and togetherness is the key to growth.
