🦷 Tooth Structure Explained
A tooth is made up of different layers, each with a unique function to keep your teeth strong and healthy.
1. 🦷 Crown
The visible part of the tooth above the gum line.
Covered by enamel for protection.
2. 🛡️ Enamel
The hardest substance in the human body.
Protects the tooth from chewing forces, bacteria, and decay.
3. 🦴 Dentin
Lies beneath the enamel.
Softer than enamel and contains tiny tubules that transmit sensations like hot and cold.
4. ❤️ Pulp
The innermost part of the tooth.
Contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue that nourish the tooth and provide sensation.
5. 🌱 Root
The part of the tooth below the gum line.
Anchors the tooth firmly into the jawbone.
6. 🦴 Cementum
A hard tissue covering the root.
Helps attach the tooth to the jaw through periodontal ligaments.
7. 🔗 Periodontal Ligament (PDL)
Connects the tooth root to the surrounding bone.
Acts as a shock absorber during chewing.
8. 🩷 Gingiva (Gums)
Soft tissue surrounding the teeth.
Protects the roots and supports oral health.
9. 🦴 Alveolar Bone
The jawbone that holds the tooth sockets.
Provides support and stability to the teeth.
