Once during his visit to a countryside, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru met a group of rural villagers. He asked them what is India. Some replied, it is a piece of land, others said the mountains or forests or rivers, etc. Nehru replied that India is nothing but "you" you all the people of this country.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee once said, "India is not a piece of land, it is an emotion, a feeling, a personified national entity.
India can be described as a strong, stable and a confident nation only when people across different regions or religions or cultures are living in harmony.
Here it is significant to understand the importance of maintaining social harmony for nation building.
India got independence in 1947 but it was not an easy transition of power. The country was divided into 2 i.e, India and Pakistan. The partition was purely on religious basis. Certainty, the geography of a subcontinent was changed forever mere to satisfy the political ambitions of a few power hungry people. It is easy for religious fanatics and power hungry people to divide people but it takes generations to repair those wounds. what previously was India became India and Pakistan.
Despite all this India's founding fathers choose not to follow the path choosen by Pakistan. They choose a secular constitution where there was no state religion and every citizen is equal. Pakistan was founded on the basis of religion as the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
India achieved outstanding feats in every sphere and made its mark as a leading country in the world by the turn of the century. It's all because of collective efforts of all the people of the country.
Pakistan, at the same time, failed to achieve similar levels of developments and ultimately became a birthplace for fundamentalist terrorist organizations.
Communalism breeds terror and hatred and ultimately leads to collapse of countries.
On this day of 15th Aug. we all must take pledge to fight these communal forces and their malicious intentions
