Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had established Swarajya's military system in a very disciplined, organized and efficient manner. Their military had three parts mainly — castles, footsteps and horsemen. The Maharaj had recognized how much strong administration and strict discipline is required to maintain the Swarajya.

Earlier there was only one fortress on the fort and all the fort were working under his hands. But Maharaj changed this method to avoid fituri. Three major officers are being placed on the fort — fortress or constituency, sabnis and factories. Looking at the security of the fortress, Sabnis takes care of collections, vault and salary arrangements, while factories are looking at the responsibility of Ambarkotha, factories and alcohol. Any decision should be taken with the consent of these three.

The fortress was always a rule that there should be a caste Maratha. He needs the bail of a person in Maharaj's faith. No one can get a fortune by anyone's penance. There was a system that Sabnis of the fort should be Brahmin and factory Lord. A fortress should be family so that there is no operation under the influence of drama schools or batkis, taking care.

Different divisions of Mavalas are being held on the fort. There is a Nike on the nine Mavalas and there is a surnobat on the Nike. Big forts have five to six sarnaubats. Similarly, the fortress will be changed every three years, the sarnaubat every four years and the Sabnis-factory every five years, so that no one will create power unitedly.

Severe punishment is given to those who do fituri in Swaraja. If an officer seems suspicious, he is kept secretly. If a fituri is proved, he will be headed to the throat and punished that "whoever does this will get such a result". There is no concrete record of Swaraja's fortress has been fallen due to this strict discipline of Maharaj.

There are two types of soldiers in Swarajya's horse group - Shiledar and Bargir. The soldiers have their own horses and weapons. They don't get paid during the ride, but they're capable of keeping the loot to themselves. Yet they had to stay under control of the surnames.

Bargirans do not have their own horse or weapons. All arrangements should be provided to them by the government. These soldiers are on salary and if they keep the loot they received during the campaign, they would be severely punished. One constituency on 25 bargirs in horse group, one jumledar on five constituencies and one on ten jumledar. Brahmin Mujumdar, Maratha Karbari and Kayastha Prabhu Jamenis were there for the help of attendance.

Wherever the Maharaj is going, there are about two thousand armed riders along with his palanquin. Maharaj himself used to select these soldiers from Mavla. Some soldiers have bricks, some have swords and some have guns. Since this is Maharaj's special palanquin squad, his costume is also special and attractive.

At the time of Maharaj's death, Swarajya's horse was about 45 thousand and 1 lakh on foot. Such a big army system stood on discipline, trust and strict administration. This military system built by Chhatrapati Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is considered to be the most advanced and effective system of that time.
