Evergreen Mountain Library
EVERGREEN SCHOOL, SURU, KARGIL·TUESDAY, 23 JULY 2019·
Donate books. Help us build a curriculum for reading. Volunteer as a librarian (duration 3-6 months)
The dream of opening a library in the mountains was always on our mind but the processes are just picking up. The mountain library can provide a space for children to think, question and evolve. We need resources to build a reading room, bring books into the library and be able to host traveling educators who could work with the members of the library. Small grants, individual donors. supply of books, volunteers, the scope of assistance that we could get is limitless. Starting as a safe reading space for children, overtime, the mountain library aims to:
· Be a space for people to gather and engage creatively.
· Be a hub of resources which provides free access to books of all kinds and for all ages.
· Conduct Art and Language programmes: primarily designed to help local teachers expand upon the creativity in their own teaching and provide for concurrent learning.
· Organize lectures, film screenings and arts based workshops that gives access to cultural and educational experiences to the entire community.
· Be a centre for capacity building of primary school teachers, providing them knowledge and skills to support children from non-literate background to become proficient readers and writers.
· Be a residential resource lab where educators from diverse backgrounds and geographies can come and stay with us. Connect with us if you want to know more about the project and would like to share your suggestions/contacts with us. Your words can go a long way, 2700 meters above sea level.
