World Health Day Celebrated at Bebe Nanaki University College

Under the direct administration of Guru Nanak Dev University, and under the able guidance of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Karamjeet Singh and Prof. Dr. Saroj Arora, Dean, College Development Council, the NSS Department of Bebe Nanaki University College celebrated “World Health Day.”

This year’s theme was “Together for Health: Stand with Science.” On this occasion, Cooking and Poster Making competitions were organized for the students.

In the Cooking Competition, students prepared a variety of healthy and nutritious dishes. Himanshi Jindal secured the first position, Jasleen Kaur secured the second position, and Mansi secured the third position. In addition, Anjali and Simranjit Kaur received consolation prizes.

In the Poster Making Competition, Sandeep Kaur emerged as the winner. Through their posters, students presented important messages related to health and science.

The college NSS Programme Officers, Dr. Paramjeet Kaur and Sandeep Singh, jointly stated that such programs create awareness among students regarding health and inspire them to adopt a healthy lifestyle. They added that only through scientific thinking and accurate information can a healthy society be created.

The Principal of the college, Dr. Jagsir Singh Brar, appreciated the initiative and said that spreading awareness among students about health and hygiene is the need of the hour. He further stated that such programs play an important role in the overall development of students.

At the end, the students also shared that through this program they gained new knowledge about healthy living and would like to participate in such activities in the future as well.

The NSS unit of Bebe Nanaki University College, Mithra organized a *“Sustainability Ideas Campaign”* on 28 April 2026 under the direct administration of Guru Nanak Dev University. The activity was conducted under the guidance of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh and the directions of Dean, College Development Council, Prof. (Dr.) Saroj Arora.

The campaign aimed to encourage students to think creatively and suggest practical solutions to improve sustainability on the college campus. Students actively participated by sharing innovative ideas related to waste management, energy conservation, water saving, and reducing plastic usage. Many students proposed simple yet effective measures.

The activity provided a platform for students to express their thoughts and take responsibility towards creating a greener and more sustainable environment. It also helped in developing awareness and a problem-solving approach among students regarding environmental issues.

NSS Coordinator Dr. Paramjit Kaur stated that such initiatives motivate students to actively contribute towards environmental protection and help in developing sustainable habits.

Principal Dr. Jagsir Singh Brar appreciated the efforts of the students and emphasized that practical ideas and collective actions are essential to bring meaningful change. He encouraged students to implement these ideas in their daily lives and work towards a sustainable future.

Start of ‘Earth Day Week’ at University College Mithra

Under the direct administration of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, and under the guidance of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Karamjit Singh and the directions of Dean, College Development Council, Prof. Dr. Saroj Arora, Babe Nanaki University College, Mithra organized an event on April 22, 2026. On this occasion, the NSS unit celebrated the day as a Plastic-Free Campus Day under the “Zero Plastic Drive.”

This activity marked the first event of the Bharat Environment Program 2026 on the occasion of Earth Day Week. It was conducted as part of the initiatives of the Bharat Sustainability Mission 2026, in collaboration with RHF and EPTRI. During the event, students and staff took a pledge to avoid the use of plastic and also carried out a cleanliness drive across the campus.

During this campaign, students were made aware of the harmful effects of plastic and informed about eco-friendly alternatives. Through this awareness program, a strong message was delivered to eliminate the use of single-use plastic.

The theme for this year was “End Plastic Pollution, Save the Earth,” encouraging everyone to reduce plastic usage in their daily lives and contribute towards a cleaner and greener environment.

College Principal Dr. Jagsir Singh Brar, in his message, stated that plastic pollution is a major issue in today’s time, and every individual must take responsibility to reduce it. Such initiatives help in creating environmental awareness among students.

NSS Program Officer Dr. Paramjit Kaur said that the main objective of the Zero Plastic Drive is to practically engage students in environmental protection. Collective small efforts can lead to significant change.

S. Sandeep Singh (Political Science), Program Officer of the second NSS unit, also played an important role in the success of this campaign. He emphasized that environmental protection is a shared responsibility, and by reducing plastic usage, we can make our surroundings clean and beautiful. The college also expressed its commitment to continue such initiatives in the future.
