Dr.Samuel Higher Secondary School is situated in a small beautiful village called Santhapuram in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. Before the year 1935 there was no school in and around Santhapuram. Children had to walk miles together to attend school. In 1935 it struck Dr.Swaminathan Samuel that a school should be started for the poor children in and around Santhapuram. So he started a preparat
ory school in the same year. It was upgraded to High school on 26-06-1961. In the year 1963 it was recognized as a co-education school. The first teacher of the school was Mr.Swamydhas, the second son of Dr.Samuel. He worked as In charge of the school under his father. On 24-05-1978, it became a Higher Secondary School. This was during the time of then Director of School Education, Dr.H.S.S.Lawrence (Harris Samuel Sahayam Lawrence). We are proud to say that Dr.Lawrence is none other than the grandson of Dr.Samuel.(son of Mr. S.Harris, eldest son of Dr.Samuel). Dr.Lawrence brought higher secondary education to Tamil Nadu, so he was called as Higher Secondary School Lawrence. A trust by name Dr.Samuel Memorial Educational Trust - (a charitable educational trust) was created on 8 th June 1987 by the sons of Dr. S. Samuel for the efficient management of Dr.Samuel Higher Secondary School and Ganammal Primary School. The trust deed was signed by Dr.S.Sam Ross, Mr.S. Charles Robson, Mr.S Justus and Dr.S. Now the members of the trust are:

Mr. Sujeevan Dhas -- President/manager,
Dr. C. Samuel John Sundar—Secretary. The motto of the school is Victory, Virtue and Vigilance. The vision is to help children learn, grow physically, mentally and spiritually for the glory of GOD. To encourage the students to attend the school, a mid day meal scheme was started in 1987. In the year 1997 vocational course was started and for that a new building was constructed. To provide drinking water, a water tank was constructed. In the year 1998 the science lab was opened. Dr.Sujayam David, daughter of Mr.S.Justus and granddaughter of Dr. Samuel was the generous donor of the computer lab. The following extracurricular activities to enhance the
skills of the students were started:-
1997 -- NSS and Junior Red Cross.
2012 -- National green corps.
2013 -- Scouts. A new block was constructed and opened on 8/10/2016 in the loving memory of Dr.S.Sam Ross, Mr.S. Charles Robson, Mr.S. Justus and Dr.S.Christaff. The second floor of the building was donated by Dr. Sujayam David. She also contributes a set of school uniform to all the school students every year. From the year 2018, to encourage the students, 2 grams gold medals are given to students who stand first in 10 th and 12 th public examinations, in the loving memory of Dr.S. Christaff and Mrs. Chandra Christaff by their son Dr.C.Samuel John Sundar. The Management also gives a cash prize of Rs.5000/= to the student who stands first in 12 th . As we look ahead may the management and staff of Dr.Samuel Higher secondary school rededicate themselves to continue their endeavors to impart excellent education and moral values.
