'Montessori in a Box' is an initiative of Kalpagam Montessori Resource Centre (for home-schoolers) OPC. Pvt. Ltd.
While working with parents of home-schoolers, over a period of 7 years, we realized that there is a huge misconception about the Montessori system among parents. It is also inaccessible to interested parents due to its heavy pricing.
When Covid-19 lock down started, we wanted to make sure that none of the children associated with Kalpagam should enter the online-class-frenzy which took over the educational sector. We came up with hands-on materials, working with which children could continue their self-development without any hindrance right from the comfort of their homes. Thus, 'Montessori in a Box' was born!
There was an over-whelming inquiry from parents who weren't associated with us directly as well. Therefore we decided to venture into manufacturing affordable and authentic Montessori materials for home-schoolers.
We tested the waters with the manufacturing of the simple Montessori Chowki. We wanted to deliver easy-assembling chowkies which didn't require any skill or tools from the customer. Even though our products were of good quality, we struggled initially with proper packing and transportation due to the lock down and unavailability of quality packing products.But soon we figured out how to deal with the initial hiccups. Once the quality and packing was satisfactory for us we hit the market. The results were motivating and was welcome by many parents from across India.
Since Miss. Deepti Nirmal (the director of Kalpagam Montessori Resource Centre OPC Pvt. Ltd) is trained both in Primary and Elementary Montessori, and has had 7 years of work experience with children, we then focused on manufacturing Montessori Math materials and also put together Practical Life materials which are age-appropriate.
We launched the products in September, 2020. We gradually expanded and are now preparing Montessori Language Materials.
Apart from these materials, we also conduct regular online classes for parents who are interested in setting up a Montessori home-schooling environment.
