Presidential council is organizing Students' Academic and Technical Research Convention on 2-3 April 2016. A similar convention was organized in 2014.
STARC is aimed at encouraging research among the students. In the event, the students will be asked to submit the abstract of their
research work. After initial screening, they will be asked to present their work in any of the following categories- Oral, Poster or Idea. Apart from this, we are also planning some guest lectures and exhibition for SIDBI industries. The event will also witness SnT Ex

Dear All,
President's Office is organizing a two days gathering: "Students' Technical & Academic Research Convention" on April 2-3, 2016 to motivate budding researchers with the aim to provide a common platform to students of all degrees and disciplines to interact on the "research front" which has always been the symbol of IIT Kanpur.
About the program:
STARC is aimed at encouraging research among the students. In the event, the students will be asked to submit the abstract of their research work. After initial screening, they will be asked to present their work in any of the following categories-
-Idea/Implementation
-Oral Presentation
-Poster
Apart from this, we are also planning some guest lectures and exhibition for SIDBI industries. The event will also witness SnT Expo and the Snt Day in coordination with the Science and Technology Council. A similar convention was organized in 2014.
About the competition:
The student (or team of students (not more than 3)) is supposed to electronically submit a short article centered to applied research at [email protected] by March 18, 2016.
The event is not restricted to students who are currently pursuing research in certain disciplines. Your work could be as simple as application of the Pythagoras Theorem or something you presented in science fair at school level. Your submission could be proposal of an idea, implementation of a concept or review of present method to solve a real-life problem. It can contain hardware and/or software components. The author can use figures and tables to support their explanation in their abstracts.
Format:
- Not more than 3 A4 pages(including all figures & tables)
- 1" margin on all sides
- Times New Roman/Calibri/Consolas fonts
- headings 14 pt. bold
- contents 12 pt.
- 1.5 line spacing.

Submit your article in pdf format and name your file as ".pdf"(Use roll no. of first team member as file name in case of a group of students).
Judging and Prizes:
Based on your article submission, you will be called for presentation and the entries shall then be judged by a panel of experts, including IIT Kanpur faculty members. Top three entries in each category will be awarded with attractive cash prizes.
A certificate of participation will be awarded to all the participants. Moreover, 10 merit prizes will be awarded in various categories such as Best Idea/Implementation, Best Poster, Best Oral Presentation, etc.
Note: There is no registration fee for participation.
The final schedule and venue of the event shall be intimated shortly.

Faculty Talks:
1. Dr. Indranil Manna, honorable director, extended his kind blessings and hearty best wishes for the success of the event.
2. Dr. Ashutosh Sharma, a theorist turned into an experimentalist shared a lot of experiences from his research career, emphasizing the power of
creativity and out-of-box thinking. He also stressed the importance of translating one's research into a technological product.
3. Dr. Sanjay Mittal, Head of Department of Aerospace Engineering, shared his research on fluid dynamics of Cricket Ball and Shuttlecock in
an interactive as well as an inspirational talk. His worked is iconic of a perfect amalgamation of theory and experiments which is just the recipe for a complete understanding of scientific fundamentals.
4. Dr. B. V. Phani: For developing countries like India, there is a
great demand of an application based research which eventually satisfy social needs. In an informative talk, Dr. Phani made students aware of the incubation facilities at IIT Kanpur and thus motivated them translate their work into a finished product.
Student Articles:
More than 100 articles were electronically submitted for review. Out of them review committee, shortlisted 90 articles, 30 of which were called for a power point presentation and 60 for a poster presentation. All the articles were centered on a common theme of application based research.

Hall of residence 4 is organizing a two days gathering to promote budding researchers. This is a gentle attempt to bring together IITK students to discuss innovation and ideas.
We strongly believe that incubation is the next phase of research. And since you've successfully materialized your ideas, we wish to invite you to present your start-ups to this student gathering. Your support would go a long way in motivating these young minds. They'll become aware of the true potential of their ideas, the community will learn of the different start-ups and in the long run they could be associated with you, for example in the form of a summer training or software support. Our prime motivation is to provide a healthy interaction.

Hall of residence 4 is organizing a two days gathering to promote budding researchers. The conference contains talks by eminent IIT Kanpur faculties and presentations by students.
This is a gentle attempt to encourage healthy interaction and reduce research gap among the student of different degrees and disciplines. Hence, we highly encourage inter-year, inter-degree and inter-discipline team formation. The winners shall be rewarded with cash prizes. All the participants will be awarded certificates.
