We aim to provide exposure to real life engineering problems, in both technical and managerial field

11/02/2020

Hello everyone,
The Association of Mechanical Engineers (AME, IITK) and the Research wing of Academic and Career Council (AnC, IITK), collaboratively, are organizing a departmental orientation session today for the Mechanical engineering department, as an effort to enlighten the students about the various research opportunities in our department and inculcate in them, the desire to pursue and explore the domain of research. This session will involve faculty members from different sub-disciplines briefing the students about the on-going research work in their domain, labs, associated faculty, and motivating the students on how they can contribute to their area of interest.
Details of the session:
Each professor may give a 12-15 min presentation followed by a QnA session. High tea shall be served before the event. The details of the event are as follows:
Date: 11th Feb'20, Tuesday (Today)
Time: 7 pm (High Tea starts at 6.45 pm)
Venue: LHC-13
NOTE: The session is open for students from all batches and departments.
The session will be beneficial for the following:
1. UG first year (Y19): For those who are planning for branch change, knowing about the department and interacting with the faculty about the prospective career scopes and research fields will help you make a sound decision.
2. UG second year (Y18): For those who are planning to apply for SURGE or to take up research projects under the professors, such a session will prove very helpful in deciding your field of interest and further career path. With the internship season lined up just after the summer vacations, it is essential for most of you to start focussing on what all can you pursue ahead in the core-sector and otherwise.
3. UG third year (Y17): For those who are planning for dual-degree conversion or for applying for double majors in the Mechanical dept., it is imperative that you get to know about the on-going research work in various labs of the department and start interacting with the faculty, which will help you choose a suitable faculty supervisor for you. Others can lookout to explore and find their respective BTP supervisors for the upcoming year.
4. UG fourth year & PG students: Apart from getting to know more into the specific sub-fields wherein various faculty are working, it will certainly be a platform to discuss on how can we better collaborate to take up inter-disciplinary projects/thesis amongst various sub-disciplines to broaden the scope and impact of the research work.
We request the student community to take out some time from their busy schedules and come to such an informative session which will not only facilitate better information dissemination about what all goes on in the department and associative research fields but will also, act as a medium to strengthen the student-faculty relations.
Thank you for reading. Hoping for your kind support towards the initiative.
