HERF Organizes Extension Lecture on Muslim Rule in India

The Co-curricular Activities Department of Haque Education and Research Foundation (HERF), Kanpur, organized an extension lecture on Muslim Rule in India: 712 AD to the 19th Century on Wednesday, 27th November, in the Prayer Hall of HERF. The event was conducted under the aegis of M***i Abdul Rasheed Qasmi, Chairman of HERF, and Maulana Ameenul Haq Abdullah Qasmi, Vice Chairman of HERF.

The program consisted of three sessions, followed by a question-and-answer segment with the participants.

The extension lecture was delivered by the prolific writer and historian, Syed Ubaidur Rahman, who covered the entire period from 712 AD to the 19th century.

In the first session, the speaker focused on the Delhi Sultanate, highlighting its origin and the significant rulers of the Slave Dynasty. He provided a comprehensive analysis of the reigns of Iltutmish, Balban, Alauddin Khalji, Muhammad bin Tughluq, and Firoz Tughluq. The lecture also emphasized how the Delhi Sultanate's rulers safeguarded the region from Mongol invasions, which had devastated other parts of the world. The speaker explained how Delhi and India became centers of Islamic civilization, fostering art, academia, and scholarship, and saw the establishment of numerous schools and colleges.

The second session delved into the Mughal Empire, starting with Babur's origins, military genius, and intellectual prowess. The speaker discussed how the Mughal emperors transformed India by ensuring peace and prosperity during their 350-year rule. They were instrumental in establishing schools, colleges, and libraries and provided patronage to scholars. The Mughal Imperial Library was particularly noteworthy. The session highlighted how rulers, starting with Babur, were not only scholars themselves but also enthusiastic supporters of scholarship and the arts.

The third session focused on the regional Muslim Sultanates, including the Sultanate of Maabar in Madurai, the Bahmani Sultanate, the Nizam Shahi Sultanate of Gujarat, the Sharqi Sultanate of Jaunpur, and the Kashmir Sultanate. The discussion included the conversion of Kashmir's King Rinchen Shah by the revered Sufi Hazrat Bulbul Shah. Other regional Sultanates covered were the Malwa Sultanate, Gujarat Sultanate, Adil Shahi Sultanate of Bijapur, Qutb Shahi Sultanate of Golconda, Nizam Shahi Sultanate of Ahmadnagar, and the Mysore Sultanate under Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan.

The event was attended by all students and faculty members of the Haque Education and Research Foundation, who engaged enthusiastically in the interactive session.
