THINKIZM JAM 2023: SESSION 2 And its a wrap of session 2 of jam session !We successfully completed and how !

The dream of creating a world where children can co-create and think together comes together bit by bit.
Right from imagining new uses of a mystery object together to uses of a giant ice cream cone, the participants brainstormed and visualized their ideas on jam board.

Their clarity of thought, ability to express visaully and verbally is something that we wish is allowed to be honed an not lost as they grow up.

The benefits of divergent thinking are huge. Decades of research have shown that students who are exposed to divergent thinking methods early in their education become more creative, both immediately and later on in life.
Join in the global village of thinking as students from all over the world will brainstorm and create together. Students will pick up visualisation, collaboration, communication, leadership and divergent thinking skills while brainstorming, crossing social and geographical barriers.

5 -monthly online collaborative sessions focussing on developing explorer, ideator and empathy mindset

On this International Day of the Girl child, Iam super stoked and humbled to share the work we did at over the past few months with Leadership Fellows at Protsahan India Foundation.

The 2.5 months long Creative confidence building program for first generation learners and job seeker girls around age groups of 18-21 years, was focussed at building their self-efficacy and sense of agency. Creative Confidence is linked to the ability of a person to believe in their own abilities to meet their goals and also view challenges of life from a divergent mindset.

With a combination of offline and online workshops and also guided activities by inhouse educators over these 10-12 weeks helped hone their Creative Thinking by developing their curiousity, imagination, ability to think critically, learn to fail quickly, user research skills amongst many others.

We explored multitudes of problems ranging from as wide as 'What if money grew on trees?', contextual problems of work life to focussed solutions for making cities safer for women.

In return, I learnt how to be more resilient, simplify my thoughts, how to give kind feedbacks and just be impressed by how far can a girl go if given a thriving atmosphere. Thank you   and Sonal Kapoor for the work you do and glad I could be a small part of it.

Impact study to make its way soon.
Till then some photos for you to peruse.

As we wrapped up last week, the last leg of our 2.5 month long running program for Creative confidence building, the girls worked on solving open ended challenges using the design thinking framework.

This one was a prototype made by a group around creating safe and thriving spaces for women in urban cities. The space selected by them being entertainment spaces like cinema halls.

From doing actual user interviews to prototyping, we all learned so much during the process and thrived too pushing our learnings :)
the work done by the students at Protsahan India Foundation can give competition in terms of thought process and outcomes of students of design School. So proud of them!

More to share soon:)

THE ALPHABET SCAVENGER HUNT ( ACTIVITY)

How do you spell a word using no letters ? Just find the shapes of the letters in the environment and spell out your name by joining in the images together. Y. The rule is don’t create a setup by joining objects to make them appear like a letter. Discover a letter like shape in your house objects or outer environment objects. Go, walk, explore and discover. Keep your eyes and mind open !

One of our most favourite activities to start observing things from a different angle. I tried to spell my name. For the longest I couldn’t discover where to find the B in BUTOOL. It was so obvious, a Chashma( spectacle) is a B shape naturally. The rest were discoveries made while outside seeing pipes and the headphone was a U and hairdryer became na L . Can you read my name ?

TIPS FOR TEACHERS: You can give a list of spellings or unique words to each student to try click photos and combine and spell. To make the task more complex you can now encourage them to make full sentences. The suggested software to use to combine these images, Canva App (free version)

How does one improve the design of the school desk?

In this Design Thinking Camp conducted over 3-4 days, students (age 11-13 years) worked to solve one open-ended problem using the design thinking framework. Seen here are pictures of prototypes that were an outcome of one of the group’s engagements with the process.

The best place to start is a place of no assumptions. So, the students did user research interviews with each other, understanding each other’s pain points

( like rough surfaces, and lack of light, new wants) and then discussing those insights. They then worked on prioritizing and translating them into need gaps. From here on not only did, the students explore multiple ideas, but they also gained the skills to select and develop prototypes of the most feasible solution. ( a detachable light that doubles up to a swiping mop at the back for eraser leftovers, emergency button etc)

The focus entirely was on building an understanding and appreciation of the design thinking process which is helpful in solving open-ended problems. The prototype was the result of following the process and not the goal. Learning to solve problems that could have multiple outcomes from an empathetic lens is a skill that should be taught early on to children.

Interesting Trivia: These throwback pics of group discussions are from when the workshop was conducted over 12 years ago in 2011! The children seen here in the pics were in class 7th then. Today, many of them are studying in colleges or have already joined the workforce! It would be really interesting to know about what are they doing in life and the impact of the workshop

In 2021, we conducted Thinkizm first inter city online creative jam!

This is our first step towards creating a global village of thinking where children can collaborate and be creative irrespective of geographical barriers, and socio economic barriers.

Children from different social backgrounds and over 6 cities including Jabalpur, Pune, Mumbai and Surat joined this global village of thinking, to collaborate and play together a game of online pictionary.

In the process they learnt visualisation skills and collaborating crossing social and geographical barriers. And did we say it's all free to keep up our efforts to keep quality education open source!
