Established in 1964. MHRD, Govt. of India has recognized Mech. Engg. Deptt., HBTI, Kanpur as the QIP centre for pursuing Ph.D. programme.
The department of Mechanical Engineering, famous as "Mech D" among the prodigious students of department, was established in 1964. It is one of the premier departments of the Institute. The department offers separate undergraduate four year degree course, two year regular postgraduate degree program in computer aided design and three year PG degree program in mechanical design & Industrial System
