SEG chapter is planning to organize a talk on higher education and job opportunities in the US relevant to the field of Earth Sciences by one of our alumni pursuing his higher studies in the US.
But we don’t want it to be a generic presentation. To make this presentation more relevant to the current audience in the department, we have decided to get first-hand from you.

IIT Kanpur SEG student chapter is organizing a talk cm tutorial session on Generic Mapping Tools (GMT) as per the schedule mentioned below:
Title: Introduction to the Generic Mapping Tools (GMT)
Speaker: Akhil Mishra
Date & Time: 01August, 2019 (Thursday); 4PM
Venue: ES class room (WL 305)
Abstract: Generic Mapping Tools (GMT) is a set of open-source software package for processing (filtering and other image processing operation), and mapping of spatial data which creates high quality data visualizations (including various map projection), such as contour maps, surface plot and 3D plot. It comes with a comprehensive collection of free GIS data, such as coast lines, bathymetry, rivers, political borders, and coordinates of other geographic objects. Its flexibility at no charge (open source) and high quality output makes it more attractive in recent years. Thus, it is extremely useful to geo-scientists of all discipline dealing with plotting tasks.
Purpose of the present interactive session is to introduce audience with basic GMT commands so that they become familiar with GMT and can utilize in their research work. This Presentation will include description of important GMT commands and how to write and execute them for different cases. Several examples corresponding to different GMT commands will also be presented for better visualization.
About Speaker: Mr. Akhil Mishra is currently working as Senior project associate at the department of Earth Sciences, IIT Kanpur. He has submitted his PhD thesis to NIO-Goa(AcSIR). His research interests include Geodynamics, plate-tectonics, Gravity-magnetic modelling. He has ample experience in working with GMT tools.

Schlumberger day organised by ES Society and IITK SEG student chapter supported by Department of Earth Sciences, IIT Kanpur. Key highlights of the Day 1 events are oral presentation, poster presentation and Case study problem( provided by Schlumberger). Case study event was judged by delegates from the Schlumberger and faculty members of the department jointly. IITK SEG student chapter and ES Society is very much thankful to all the enthusiastic participants, students, faculty members and Schlumberger delegates for taking out time for this event.

Dear All,
We are happy to inform you that ESS and IIT Kanpur SEG student chapter Team will be doing an Art exhibition on Joint Teacher’s Day and Freshers celebration (5th Septmber, 2018).
The exhibition is not limited to any particular form of Art. You can present your Painting, Photograph, sculptures, etc.
We will be collecting your artworks making sure it remains safe throughout the event and safely returning the same to you before 7th September.
Please mail Krishnendu Paul ([email protected]) what you want to present and attach sample photos of the sane.
P.S: If you want to exhibit your photography, we will take care of the printing cost.
