Fractals? You definitely have seen these beautiful structures before in nature, mathematics and in architecture, but do you really know what they are? What hides behind their enchanting beauty? It's math all the way down.

Here with an example is one of the simplest yet aesthetic one: The Koch’s Snowflake Fractal.

At our core, we are a bunch of math enthusiasts. And nothing makes us happier than to sit and contemplate questions that send our heads spinning. Here's the famous Monty Hall Problem, a conundrum of probability, that's been a favourite of math geeks for a long long while. Can you outsmart Monty?
Let us know in the comments what you'd like us to cover next.

Stamatics is proud to present... INTEGRATION BEE!
Integration Bee is a fast paced contest all about integrals. The qualifier will be a pen-paper test to see who can solve the most number of integrals in a set amount of time. The finalists will then be invited for a showdown at the blackboard, to see who is truly 'The Integration God'.
Join us on Tuesday (08/11/22) at L7 to take part in this exciting rush of an event. Do you have what it takes?

Greetings!

Block your calendars for tomorrow (Thursday, 20th January 2022) at 7:00 pm as Stamatics brings to you yet another exciting talk on Data Science and Statistics!

Title: Decision Making - A Journey from Statistics to Data Science.

Speaker: Dr. Shalabh Shalabh, Professor of Statistics and Data Science and Dean of Academic Affairs, IITK.

Abstract: Statistics plays an important role in decision-making based on a set of data. The beginning of the decision-making process was based on statistics but over a period of time, it was taken over by data science. How it happened, what were the earlier constraints and conditions which led to such a transformation of statistics into data science is the subject matter of the talk. The talk will be non-mathematical.

Students from all branches, years, and courses of study are invited!

Greetings!

Block your calendars for tomorrow (Friday, 22nd October) at 7:00 pm as Stamatics brings to you an exciting talk on Data Science and Statistics!

Title: Statistics and Data Science - How Big is the Intersection?

Speaker: Prof. Dootika Vats, Department of Mathematics and Statistics

Abstract: Data science, statistics, and machine learning are often used interchangeably when referring to new-age big (or small) data analysis. How similar are these topics, and what, if at all, distinguishes them? Using a variety of applied research examples, I will try and highlight the differences and similarities in these areas. The talk will be directed towards young scholars, interested in pursuing research in the study of data.

The Zoom link for the talk will be shared through email a few hours before the event. Students from all branches, years and courses of study are invited!

Best wishes,

Greetings!

Stamatics presents the first talk of this academic year this Saturday, 14th August at 6:00 pm. Mark your calendars for an adventurous evening with Professor Amit Kuber as we embark on a quest into the world of representation theory of quivers.

Title: Arrows, quivers, but no ancient warriors

Abstract: Quivers in mathematics are directed graphs with the possibility of loops and parallel arrows. Interestingly, algebras (structures with addition, multiplication and scalar multiplication) can be "presented" with the help of such innocent-looking objects.

The talk will be a gentle introduction to the area of representation theory of quivers, leading up to the classification of algebras into tame and wild classes. (Indeed, mathematicians treat algebras as if they are animals!) The only prerequisite is some basic knowledge of vector spaces and linear maps, and of course, curiosity!

The Zoom link for the talk will be shared through email a few hours before the event.
