Congratulations to our esteemed alumnus, Mr. Amit Kumar (BT/ME/2001), on being appointed as Managing Director and Chief Business Officer at Moglix.

Mr. Kumar brings more than two decades of leadership experience across enterprise transformation, business strategy, operations, and digital innovation.

Prior to joining Moglix, he served as Group CEO and Executive Director at Symphony Limited, where he led significant growth initiatives, digital transformation, and supply chain restructuring. He has also held senior leadership and advisory roles at KPMG India, EY India, and PwC India across diverse industries including automotive, FMCG, consumer durables, chemicals, steel, and industrial manufacturing.

At Moglix, Mr. Kumar will lead the development and expansion of emerging business segments and strategic growth opportunities, contributing to the company’s next phase of industrial and technology-led expansion.

Congratulations to our esteemed alumnus Prof. Varun Harbola (BS/PHY/2015) on receiving the prestigious Oxide Electronics Prize for Excellence in Research (iWOE Prize) in recognition of his outstanding and pioneering contributions to the field of oxide electronics.

The iWOE Prize is a distinguished international recognition that honours researchers whose work has significantly advanced the frontiers of oxide electronics and contributed meaningfully to the global scientific community.

Currently serving as an Assistant Professor (Reader) in the Department of Condensed Matter Physics & Materials Science at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Prof. Harbola’s research interests include oxide thin films and heterostructures, freestanding membranes, and interfacial physics.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Prof. Harbola on this remarkable achievement and wish him continued success in his scientific pursuits and academic endeavours.

Congratulations to our distinguished alumnus, Prof. Sanjiva Lele (BT/ME/1980), on being elected as a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).

This prestigious honour recognizes his seminal contributions to aeroacoustics, compressible turbulence, and the development of accurate computational methods for the numerical simulation of turbulent flows.

Prof. Lele is a professor with joint appointments in the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford University. His pioneering work has profoundly advanced the understanding of unsteady flow phenomena, turbulence, flow instabilities, and flow-generated sound, with wide-ranging impact across aerospace engineering, wind energy systems, and multiphase flow physics.

We congratulate Prof. Lele on this remarkable achievement and wish him continued success in his academic and research pursuits.

We are proud to share that Mr. Manoj Kumar Agarwal (BT/ME/1987) an esteemed alumnus of IIT Kanpur, has been appointed as the Chief Secretary of West Bengal.

A 1990-batch IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre, Mr. Agarwal has held several key administrative positions during his distinguished career. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal and as ex-officio Additional Chief Secretary in the Home and Hill Affairs Department.

As Chief Secretary, he will serve as the principal advisor to the Chief Minister and lead the state administration at the highest level.

We congratulate Mr. Agarwal on this significant achievement and wish him continued success in his service to the nation.

We are delighted to share that Prof. Manindra Agrawal (BT/PHD/CSE/1986/1991), distinguished alumnus and Director of Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, has been elected as a Fellow of The Royal Society - one of the world’s most prestigious scientific honours.

A Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) is elected in recognition of exceptional contributions to science, engineering, and technology. This honour is awarded to individuals who have made a substantial contribution to the improvement of natural knowledge, including mathematics, engineering science, and medical science.

Prof. Agrawal, a renowned computer scientist from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the Wadhwani School of AI & Intelligent Systems, is internationally recognized for his pioneering contributions to computational complexity theory, computational number theory, and algebra.

Over the years, he has received numerous distinguished honours, including the Padma Shri, Infosys Prize, Gödel Prize, Fulkerson Prize, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, and the Clay Research Award.

The entire IIT Kanpur community takes immense pride in this remarkable achievement and extends heartfelt congratulations to Prof. Agrawal on this global recognition.

Heartfelt congratulations to Prof. Viney Aneja (BT/CHE/1971) on receiving the prestigious Global Environment and Social Association (GESA) 2025 Senior Scientist Award and Gold Medal.

A distinguished alumnus of IIT Kanpur, Prof. Aneja serves as Professor in the Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences at North Carolina State University, USA, and is internationally recognized for his outstanding contributions to environmental science, air quality, climate research, and sustainability policy.

Prof. Aneja is a recipient of the North Carolina Award in Science, the highest civilian honor bestowed by the Governor of North Carolina. He has also been recognized among Stanford University’s top 2% scientists worldwide for his exceptional scholarly contributions.

The IIT Kanpur community takes immense pride in Prof. Aneja’s remarkable achievements and his enduring contributions to science, research, and society.

We extend our best wishes to Prof. Aneja as he continues to inspire the global scientific community through his exemplary work and leadership.

ABHINANDAN 2026
A farewell wrapped in memories, a future wrapped in pride.

On 14th May 2026, the Alumni Association IIT Kanpur, in collaboration with the Office of Resources & Alumni and the Outreach Cell, IIT Kanpur hosted Abhinandan 2026 at the Main Auditorium, IIT Kanpur - a special evening dedicated to bidding farewell to the graduating Class of 2026 and welcoming them into the IIT Kanpur alumni community.

The auditorium echoed with emotions as students, faculty members, alumni, and distinguished guests gathered to celebrate years of shared experiences, memories, and bonds that go far beyond the classroom.

The event was graced by Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director, IIT Kanpur; Prof. Braj Bhushan , Deputy Director, IIT Kanpur; Prof. Amey Karkare, Dean of Resources & Alumni and Secretary, AAIITK; Mr.Tarun Bhargava, Vice-President, AAIITK; Prof. Ketan Rajawat,Treasurer, AAIITK; Ms. Vijaya Mishra, Board Member, AAIITK; and Mr. Virendra Kumar, Board Member, AAIITK.

From the nostalgic Memory Lane journey to the soulful performances, the evening beautifully reflected both gratitude for the past and excitement for the future, as students transitioned into proud alumni of IIT Kanpur.

IIT Kanpur is deeply honoured to share the signing of an MoU with Mr. Anoop Pant and Mrs. Ritu Pant for the establishment of the Ishan Pant Memorial Scholarship for Excellence, in loving memory of their late son, Mr. Ishan Pant (BT/BSBE/2017).

The scholarship will support one undergraduate student every year for four consecutive years, carrying forward Ishan’s legacy through the transformative power of education and opportunity.

The Pant family shared how deeply special IIT Kanpur was to Ishan, and expressed their wish for his memories and spirit to continue living on through this initiative.

Their thoughtful gesture is a moving tribute to a cherished son and a meaningful legacy that will continue to inspire and support future generations of students at IIT Kanpur.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Pant for their strength, generosity, and enduring connection with the Institute.
