“Never complain about the number of hours you have to put into a job. Your nobility must be estimated by how much of you was put into each hour of your daily work.”
— Swami Chinmayananda
In today’s fast-paced world, people often complain that they are overworked, stressed, or too busy. We frequently hear statements like, “I have so much work,” or “I don’t have enough time.” Swamiji gently reminds us that time is not the real issue. The real question is: How fully are we living each moment?
Imagine two students preparing for an examination. One studies for ten hours but is distracted by social media, worries, and daydreaming. Another studies with complete concentration for just three hours. Who is likely to perform better? The answer is obvious. Success depends not on the number of hours but on the quality of attention, commitment, and sincerity we invest.
The same principle applies to every profession. A doctor who treats patients with compassion heals more than just bodies. A teacher who teaches with passion shapes the future of a nation. A parent who spends meaningful time with their children builds strong values. A leader who serves selflessly earns respect and trust. In every field, greatness comes from giving ourselves completely to the task at hand.
Swami Chinmayananda often taught that work is not merely a means to earn a livelihood—it is an opportunity to express our character and evolve spiritually. Every responsibility, whether big or small, is a chance to develop discipline, patience, efficiency, and selflessness.
When we perform our work with love and dedication, even ordinary tasks become extraordinary. Cleaning a classroom, preparing for an examination, organizing an event, or helping someone in need—every action becomes meaningful when done with the right attitude.
The Bhagavad Gita beautifully teaches us:
“Yogah Karmasu Kaushalam”—Yoga is excellence in action.
This means that spirituality is not confined to temples or places of worship. Spirituality is reflected in the excellence, honesty, and dedication with which we perform our daily duties. Every classroom can become a place of worship when students learn with sincerity. Every office can become sacred when people work with integrity. Every home becomes peaceful when duties are performed with love.
As you prepare for your future, remember that the world will not judge you merely by your marks, your degrees, or the number of hours you worked. People will remember you for your integrity, commitment, compassion, and excellence. These qualities arise only when you give your whole heart to whatever you do.
Let us therefore resolve:
* Never to complain about hard work.
* Never to seek shortcuts.
* To perform every task with concentration and enthusiasm.
* To strive for excellence rather than mere completion.
* To give not just our time, but our mind, heart, and soul to every responsibility.
When we do this, success becomes a natural outcome, and work itself becomes a source of joy and fulfilment.
Let us conclude with Gurudev’s inspiring message:
“Do not count the hours you spend in your work. Instead, make every hour count by giving your very best.”
May we all cultivate this spirit of dedication and excellence in every aspect of our lives.

“Life is but these things—weakness, illness, pain, death. In spite of it all, we get at least a few days of strength, joy and life. We must consider this as a privilege.”
Every human being has to face sickness, sorrow, old age, and death. These are unavoidable. The Bhagavad Gita teaches us that everything in this world is temporary. Instead of denying these truths, we should learn to face them with courage and wisdom.
But Gurudev immediately shifts our attention to something more important. Despite all the challenges in life, we are blessed with moments of health, happiness, love, and peace. Every sunrise, every breath, every opportunity to learn, serve, and love is a priceless gift.
Unfortunately, we often focus on what we don’t have instead of appreciating what we already possess. We complain about small inconveniences while forgetting the countless blessings around us. Gratitude transforms our outlook on life. A grateful heart is always peaceful and joyful.
Difficulties also have a purpose. Illness teaches patience, failure teaches resilience, and pain teaches compassion. Every challenge can become an opportunity for inner growth if we face it with the right attitude.
Swami Chinmayananda’s own life reflected this teaching. Despite physical hardships, he tirelessly served society, spreading the message of the Bhagavad Gita with energy, enthusiasm, and a smile. He never allowed suffering to stop him from serving others.
Let us therefore live each day with gratitude, accept life’s challenges with courage, and use every opportunity to serve humanity and grow spiritually.
“Life is not a right—it is a Divine privilege. Let us value every moment, serve selflessly, and live with gratitude.”

The inspiring words of Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda, “Take Charge of Your Life,” are not merely a motivational slogan. They are a call to awaken the immense power that lies within each one of us.
Many people spend their lives waiting—for the right opportunity, the right people, or the right circumstances. They blame fate, society, or situations for their failures. But Gurudev reminds us that the steering wheel of our life is in our own hands.
Every day, we make choices. Our choices shape our habits. Our habits shape our character. And our character shapes our destiny. Therefore, if we wish to change our future, we must first change ourselves.
The Bhagavad Gita declares:
“Uddhared Ātmanātmānam”
“Lift yourself by yourself; do not degrade yourself.”
This powerful teaching reminds us that we are our own best friend and our own worst enemy. No one else can live our life for us.
Taking charge of life begins with taking responsibility. Instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” we should ask, “What can I learn from this? What should I do next?” This shift in attitude transforms problems into opportunities.
Swami Chinmayananda often emphasized that life is not determined by circumstances but by our response to them. Two people may face the same challenge, yet one emerges stronger while the other gives up. The difference lies not in the challenge, but in the attitude.
Taking charge also means mastering our own mind. A restless mind becomes our biggest obstacle, while a disciplined mind becomes our greatest strength. Through daily prayer, meditation, self-study, and selfless service, we learn to govern our thoughts instead of being governed by them.
We should also take charge of our time. Time is our most precious resource. Every minute wasted is a part of life lost forever. Successful people are not those who have more time, but those who use their time wisely.
In today’s world, distractions are everywhere. Mobile phones, social media, and endless entertainment can easily pull us away from our goals. Taking charge means deciding what deserves our attention and what does not. We must become masters of technology, not its slaves.
Taking charge also means living with values. Honesty, compassion, discipline, humility, and perseverance are not old-fashioned ideals; they are timeless strengths that build lasting success and inner peace.
Gurudev never encouraged us to escape from the world. Instead, he taught us to engage with life courageously, work sincerely, and dedicate every action to the Lord. When our actions are guided by wisdom and selflessness, life becomes meaningful and fulfilling.
Dear friends, remember that no one else can write the story of your life. Your thoughts are your pen, your actions are your words, and your character is your signature.
Let us stop waiting for a perfect tomorrow. Let us begin today. Let us take responsibility for our thoughts, our actions, our time, and our future.
Let us live by Gurudev’s inspiring message:
“Take charge of your life. Do not let circumstances control you. Let wisdom guide you, discipline strengthen you, and courage inspire you. The power to transform your life lies within you.”
