The History
Sri Vidyaniketan Higher Primary School (SVNS) was started in 1991 by a teacher couple who believed in quality education at affordable prices for one and all. Located in Kanakapura taluk of Ramanagara district, SVNS has come a long way over the past two decade of imparting education. SVNS has been teaching for children from kindergarten to 7thstandard in state syllabus and is about to add 8th standard to its prospectus. Currently, there are about 70 students and 5 teachers. The school has a good playground. It has been known for its excellence in both academic and extra-curricular activities and has proven its mettle time and again. Last year the students of this school went on to win District level Chess competition. Numerous cultural competitions have been won, many taluk level ranks have been secured by the students of our school. Along with its main function of imparting education, we at SVNS have been socially responsible by providing education to the underprivileged at reduced fees much before the RTE act was enacted, thus sustaining the idea of affordable education for one and all. The Present
However, severe lack of funds and resources has impaired the growth of the school. The school is need of helping hands to restructure and refurbish. There is a lack of both educators and equipment to scale the school up to the mark. It is in dire need of funds, books, library shelves, transport facility for the kids travelling from far away villages to ensure safer transport so on and so forth. The Future
As a first step, we plan to set up a good library and a computer lab. We aim to equip the school with better facilities in order to help the children receive well-versed education. We plan to increase the opportunity and exposure for the kids towards modern education. Our vision is to bridge the chasm between rural and urban education and thus providing opportunities for the students to excel in all areas of life – which truly is the aim of good education. We passionately believe that a good educational institution is the bedrock of a healthy society. How can you contribute? We appreciate any kind of help that you may be willing to provide. We would be posting the requirements as and when we progress with our planning. All the help received will be documented and posted regularly for the benefit of all. Immediate requirement: Children’s books – New or gently used books.

As promised, we are back with updates.

We have kick started the monthly sessions : A session once a month to teach something out of the syllabus, which will make our kids responsible citizens as they grow, somethings which we all wished were taught in school.

The first of the series was a session on 'Reduce, Reuse and Recycle' : to teach them to make useful things with recycled items. VFC - Volunteer For a Cause held the session at the school premises and taught how to make boxes, organizers with old news papers, greeting cards with old caps, Match box magnets etc. Needless to say, the kids had ample fun and learnt the valuable lessons on the 3R's.

We wish to hold many more interesting session in the future and request all to pool in their ideas in the comments. Please leave a comment with an innovative idea that you think is both important and interesting for the kids to learn from a young age.

Hi there,

So this feb-march period saw a lot of activity here and there has been a lull for the most part there onwards.

However, that does not mean we have stopped the work of rebuilding the school. We have been working in the background and have made some substantial progress.

The first update is that a very efficient and experienced staff has been taken aboard to help us.

The second update is that Infosys has been very gracious in donating 4 computers to our school. Both the changes have been very instrumental in helping us move ahead in the way we have envisioned for the school.

We are thankful for all the people who have been supportive of our venture. We will keep all updated henceforth of our upcoming events.
