Built in 1891 the iconic tower of Macfarlane Memorial Church was inaugurated in 1893. In the same year a massive 406 kg bell, manufactured in London and gifted by the Young Men's Guild and Friends of the Church of Scotland, was installed.
At that time Kalimpong had no public clock. The plan to install a clock in the tower never happened so the BELL became the clock.
For decades its sound echoed across all of Kalimpong and the surrounding hills guiding the daily life of the entire town.
In this video we explore the beautiful history of the tower and bell that was more than just architecture — it was the heartbeat of early Kalimpong.

After the grand Independence Day celebration at Mela Ground Kalimpong today our S.U.M.I, boys stayed back late into the night to do what we do best - Serve!
While everyone went home after the celebration our team of 30+ volunteers picked up every wrapper, every flag every bit of trash from the galleries and the ground.
This is true patriotism. Not just hoisting the flag, but keeping our ground clean.
We are not paid cleaners we are volunteers with a heart for Kalimpong. The ground that gave us a celebration today deserved to be clean tomorrow.
Salute to every S.U.M.I. Boy who was there till the last bag was collected. Your hard work is our pride.

Our respected Principal Sir Mr. Palden Lepcha praying and motivating our two finalist teams Heroes A and Heroes Black who have reached the FINALS of the prestigious Independence Cup in Kalimpong and Jorethang respectively.
His words of encouragement blessings and guidance have filled our boys with new energy and confidence before the big finals.

In a powerful step towards a drug free Kalimpong SP Kalimpong Mrs. Aparajita Rai IPS inaugurated and installed a Calisthenics Bar at S.U.M.I under the Shuddhi - From Darkness to Light initiative.
This initiative a joint effort of Kalimpong District Police, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and H.A.N.D.S. (Himalayan Anti AIDS and Anti Narcotic Drugs Society) aims to promote fitness discipline and a healthy lifestyle among youth as a positive alternative to substance abuse.
The event was graced by senior officers and community members strengthening the bond between police and public in the fight against drugs.
