A research paper is written well if you follow the steps mentioned below.

1. Choosing the topic: Depending upon your interest you can choose a topic. It is better if you can choose a topic which is interdisciplinary,because every product doesn't solely come out from a domain you know. It will be helpful in future if you can choose from a variety of topics.

2.Literature survey: Read a lot. Read the literature from various journals like IEEE, Science-direct, Elsevier etc.. Analyze the data and information in the papers. You might not get the whole picture at the first instance and will be hard to understand. But slowly you will. Stick to the topic you chose before and don't get deviated from the topic which can happen easily.

3. Analysis: Specific to the electric domain you'll be analyzing various networks and circuits. You should be very strong in basics for analyzing the things. In the analysis you'll get to know what are the rectifications and modifications that can be made to improve the performance of the system.
And comes the next question How!!??? #$%!
It can anything like designing a closed loop system to increase the stability or designing filters etc...
If you can accomplish this, most of the work will be over.

4. Research: Here comes the part where you get stuck and it takes a lot of time to rectify that. This can be done by simulating them using softwares like MATLAB, LabView, Proteus,PSCAD, MathCAD,COMSOL etc.. For programming you might use Keil, CCS and may more. With these tools you can solve the problem to some extent. For producing hardware or to develop a product you'll be facing more problems since in real world the elements aren't ideal.

5. Testing: After producing a prototype or a basic model which requires intense testing to prove that your model works with the functionality specified. The prototype has to subjected to all the failure cases are tested and analyzed before proceeding with the successful scenario.

6. Writing the Paper: This isn't the easiest task as it seems to be. You have to follow the rules laid down by the research organizations,journals which varies slightly form one to another.
If you follow these steps you can definitely publish one!!!..
